Correct me if I am wrong but are not a lot of Counselors self employed? So you could argue it both ways; that a great school name is important for marketing themselves or that most people go by word of mouth and don't know one school from the next (save the ivy league)

jsd Wrote:What are your thoughts on Capella? I've had my eye on this program for a while, but going with a huge for-profit school feels gross.
I have a distant family member who got a degree from Capella and a short time later was hired as a public school system school psychologist.
Unfortunately that individual didn't show interest in the forum / quick learning when I kept mentioning it and has said there is over $50,000 in school loans remaining after 2 years working.
So the education /degree appears adequate, but don't take too long

Your relative more than likely was not in a FlexPath program; they're fairly new. Plus, none of their FlexPath programs are designed for licensure.

I'm sure you are right. So, I'm guessing she probably wouldn't have been in a program like this... https://www.capella.edu/online-degrees/m...sychology/
What would be different & qualify a program to prepare a grad for licensure?

Depending on the state, the program will need to be 48 or 60 semester hours (or quarter hour equivalent) and require a practicum for credit. So far, none of their Flexpath programs are designed for licensure. However, my state is flexible on what they'll accept for licensed psychological associates because they can't practice independently.
