Need Some Assistance With Crafting a Major
#1
I already have a solid test-only + capstone plan for a BSLS from EC. I need some help designing a test-only approach with a major in History.
The requirement is min 30 hours with 15 UL -

Question: Can the Capstone count for UL in the major? If so I am set. If not i'm stuck.

I came up with:

6 - CLEP - Social Science & History
3 - CLEP - US History I
3 - CLEP - US History II
3 - CLEP - Western Civ I

3UL - DSST - Civil War & Reconstruction
3UL - DSST - Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union
3UL - ECE - World Conflicts Since 1900
3UL - ECE - World Population
3UL - EC - Capstone

Thanks for the assistance!!!

I'm not an EC expert, but yes the Capstone should count as 3 UL credits in the major. The point of the Capstone experience is to synthesize what you have learned and demonstrate proficiency in your study, particularly at the senior level.

I see your in Georgia...did you go through POAG and get the discount?

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

POAG costs $25/yr. anyone can join, nice discount off the EC list price...though I don't suggest taking too many EC courses as they are expensive.

The program may not work for every major...they seem to have specified Criminal Justice, but that is a recent addition I think. Might be worth looking into.

Be sure to check the Liberal Arts catalog and this thread for more history options:

http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...lsior.html

You will need 3 more UL credits, since the major requires 18 UL out of the 33 credits. Also, Social Science & History CLEP will not count toward the major.

I am enrolled and still qualify for the history major under the old requirements. Based on what I have learned about that, this is my best guess for one way to meet the new requirements using mostly exams.

Compared to what you have so far:

History Major at EC - 15 LL and 18 UL

I. Foundational – 4 courses

A1. US History I CLEP – 3 LL
A2. US History II CLEP – 3 LL

B1. Western Civilization CLEP – 3 LL
need - B2. World History course – 3 LL – offered at EC, also check Ohio U exams, LSU, BYU, Arkansas

II. US History – 2 courses

Civil War DSST – 3 UL
need - consider American Dream ECE – 6 UL

III. European History – 2 courses

Soviet Union DSST – 3 UL
need - consider Western Europe DSST – 3 LL

IV. Non-Western History – 1 course

need - consider Middle East DSST – 3 LL

V. Electives

World Conflicts Since 1900 ECE – 3 UL

VI. Capstone course at EC – 3 UL

This plan has 3 LL credits more than required.

I would also recommend researching the American Dream ECE, before deciding to take it.

Also, consider options through Ohio U exams, LSU, BYU, and Arkansas. (see link)

You'll need to check on ECE World Population; it may be social science.

You can search the forum for more info on POAG. Several members have used it. It does require a minimum amount of coursework through EC to get the full discount.
