Looking for some much needed advice

KarateChopBlessing88 Wrote:It varies with how much time you have in a day to study. I studied for a week (sociology (54) and US History 1 (51) ) but put in over 50-60 hours of studying into each test. Insert Academy helped a great deal! Then I used REA online tests and whenever I had a question? I typed a key word into google to watch a movie on it. I also read the REA book. But mainly Insert academy, REA Online tests, and youtube videos to answer my questions, stay focused and gain clarification is what helped me the most. -- This was in regards to US History 1 and Sociology. US History 1- Also look up the basics of the woman's rights movement for US History!!! Just a few basic terms.

Know if you are curious, and find variety in your studies? You will do fine and find it enjoyable!
Best of luck to you and hope it helps

By Insert, did you mean InstantCert?

I'm an immigrant to the U.S and was able to pass both History 1 and 2 with a little help from free resources that Sanantone posted, on Learners.org, you'll need biography of America and making of America. On archive.org you'll need history 7b or A I can't remember exactly which one is which right not along with the exam specific forum section of Instantcert. If I can do it and I didn't know Gettysburg from John Paul Getty at the beginning you can too! Some advisors get paid to give good advice others get paid to give advice. We hardly ever get paid for ours but it often times is worth much more.

Thanks for your help. I'm looking into Sociology, as well as both US History courses. I'm assuming you used InstantCert flashcards as part of your studying material too, right? I'm not familiar with Archive.org, but I'll look into it.

Those first 4 you listed aren't that hard, but Humanities is a grab bag of mixed facts from thousands of years of art, literature, theater, music and more. It's a bit of a challenge. Either the American Lit or English Lit CLEP, both of which are 6 credits, would be easier.

I tried to send you a private message with some questions on American and English Lit exams, as well as Sociology, but I'm not sure if it sent. Just looking for some advice on study material.

Not directly related but you may want to see if there is a different testing center near you that offers a better schedule. It should not be a requirement to take your clep/dsst at the school you attend.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

Just an update:

I found out the I'm able to take both American Literature and English Literature. I'm scrapping the Supervision exam because all I would need if I pass the two literature exams is 3 credits in human behavior, which I could get through Sociology. So my question now becomes what are the best study guides/methods for English Literature, American Literature, and Sociology. And, what are the recommended times to study for each course. I don't know a whole lot about what the literature exams will cover, but if I give myself a month to prepare for each one, would that be sufficient?

Cotyp08.

I took the Intro to Sociology CLEP today (about 2 hours ago actually) and I scored a 63. I took a sociology course a couple of years ago, but didn't remember anything from it. I tried the IC flashcards, but I absolutely hated them! I used the Petersons free CLEP exams (can be found on Google if you Google "Petersons for military") and free-clep-prep.com . The Peterson's exams are harder than actual CLEP. I scored a 67, 62 and 62 on the three practice exams and managed to get a 63 on the actual CLEP which is above the CollegeBoard recommended total for a B! I also bought the official 2015 Intro to Sociology CLEP study guide from college board for $10. As a last test of basic knowledge, I used the flash cards and test on Quizlet for "intro to sociology CLEP" (it had 59 terms). This was my first CLEP test. I only studied for this one for about 5 days for a total of 15 hours. It was really easy! Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!

Working on that right now, finding that Instantcert flashcards are fairly decent when it comes to the art section. The music Professor wife isn't impressed with the music section but its designed to help you pass not write a paper on music child prodigies Smile
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing
