Looking for a cheap online speech class other than Clovis. Clovis requires 6 people in the audience, and due to my work schedule I just cant find 6 people for each speech. Lol. This is for COSC's speech requirement. Also I rather not CLEP it. Any help? ;/

The DSST was much easier than I thought. I stressed over it for ages. Didn't know about the DSST study guides (Peterson etc) when I took it, so I read through two used textbooks I got from Amazon.
Seriously, you may want to buy or borrow the Peterson's guide (it has I think seven test study guides in it) and see what you think before you dismiss it. For the test you talk into a tape recorder. I thought I fell apart at the end but I apparently pulled it through enough and got an A. They want mechanical structure completeness, not I Have A Dream.

There is a public speaking class from BYU that you could do. I haven't taken it so I don't know a whole lot about it, but it looks like an option. The only problem is you will HAVE to check with COSC to see if they would accept it. I don't know if you are a student there or not, but you could always ask. It looks like it costs $459 and there are no required books.

I took public speaking last term at Clovis. Mr. Hansen the instructor is extremelly flexible. He'll let you perform your speeches through Skype with some of the other students unable to find members for their audience. The class is not too hard but it requires commitment. There are weekly discussions, mid term, final and three speeches.

Thanks guys for all the replies. Will still think about it, I like the idea that other students can view me on Skype is a good choice as well. Thanks =]

Thank you for the link Shawn that course is on my short list for my Masters program. I hope to get it done quickly too. I am not worried about the public part I speak in front of a class of kids. LOL I have also given talks at church, work and civic meetings. I just need credit so this sounds great.

Just out of curiosity, why are so many people against the speech DSST? It can't be fear -- in this thread alone we see Lindagerr who routinely speaks in front of others, and Excelsior954 who is comfortable giving a speech via Skype.
But talking on an outline into a recorder for 5 minutes is bad?
Is it because it doesn't seem "natural", or is it anxiety over giving an extemporaneous speech on an unknown topic?
Just curious. Thanks.

Well I would take the class at a community college if I can but my work schedule is very crazy and I looked and there isn't a speech class at the time I'm off of work. Also..if I had 6 people lying around I would have no problem with that as well lol. My boss won't let me grab 6 people at work and do a speech, he said after work, apparently that's when everyone is in a rush etc. So I'm down to using Skype or BYU. And...I think I mentioned this in another thread but the only testing out I'm doing is the Spanish Clep. Other than that I'm transferring my credits in. Yes I know I could of saved allot of money... if I gone testing. But it is what it is. =]
