Looking for a course
#1
Hi everyone,

I am attending a local community college and I just two courses left in order to graduate. The first one is Public Speaking and second is Advanced Java Programming. For public speaking I plan to take at Study.com. For Advanced Java, I am struggling to fine an alternate school. My school doesn't have any spots open for this course until next year. Any suggestions?

Course description:
This course introduces students to advanced topics in programming and software design such as graphical modeling techniques and algorithms and analysis as well as current techniques in interface design and user interaction. Specific topics reflect current technologies and might include inheritance and polymorphism in object-oriented design and graphical user interfaces and the event loop

College of DuPage? https://catalog.cod.edu/courses-a-z/cis/

They have "Collections in Java" and "Advanced Java Technologies" that might work.

If you're in RI and want to stick with RI schools, CSCI 309 - Object Oriented Design at RIC might work.

Quote:Students will learn fundamental concepts, techniques and principles in object-oriented analysis and design. Topics include the object-oriented design process, interfaces, inheritance, polymorphism, graphical user interfaces and design patterns. Prerequisites: CSCI 201 or CSCI 211. Offered: Fall, Spring

The prerequisite is an introduction to programming course (Java).

Oakton Community College's Java Data Structures (CSC 241) and Objects and Algorithms (CSC 255) might also be worth looking at for the lower tuition.
Ongoing: MLIS

June 2022, Thomas Edison State University (TESU): Second degree - BA in Computer Science + ASNSM in Mathematics + Cert. in CIS + Cert. in Operations Mgmt.
e-Packs: Computer Concepts; Industrial Psych.
Guided Study: Comp. Architecture
Online: Intro. to PLA; Database Mgmt.; Software Eng.; Data Structures; Liberal Arts Capstone; DSI-610 (Statistics.com)

May 2019, a residential, RA institution: BA in Political Science and Educational Studies
Relevant equivalencies: MAT-321; MAT-431; STA-315

Generally, I would recommend sticking with the community colleges in your state, unless it's cheaper, easier, and faster at one of those out of state colleges. Have you looked around at colleges nearby in your state to see if they've got comparable courses online? I'd start with that first...

Thank you everyone for the replies. I have already taken the Intro to Java programming. The problem is that the next available class is next spring. Sad I will check out the suggestions provided above.
