List?
#1
Big Grin
So is there a list of non-MBA cheap degrees in under a year that are competency-based?
Someone made an excellent point yesterday on my question. Not everyone needs an MBA and the only ones listed are those for MBA

Every competency-based, subscription-priced degree program commonly discussed here is (and a few not commonly discussed are) listed on the Competency-Based Programs page at the DegreeForum wiki. The list is by institution not degree; you will have to click through and read more to see which degrees specifically are offered by WGU, Walden, etc.

Fort Hays State University offers a number of online master programs with added concentrations at $320 per graduate credit
MPS in Public Health Administration - Fort Hays State University (FHSU)

I do not have any experience with this university, but it appears to be a strong state university with a good reputation!

I favor Stony Brook University's online MHA, but it may be pricey even for a resident New Yorker.

Another consideration is earning a graduate degree that qualifies you to obtain a fellowship in healthcare administration following graduation.

The Competency-Based Education (CBE) model is an intriguing paradigm shift from the traditional learning pathway. I did a Google Scholar search to get myself up to date on this learning model. To my surprise, the job market seems to be starting to embrace this type of education. I am not sure if this has been discussed on Degreeforum.net. This article discusses how higher education needs to make reforms to prepare graduates for the workplace. https://openurl.ebsco.com/EPDB%3Agcd%3A1...9807&crl=c

I still embrace the more traditional college pathway but understand the challenges graduate students face juggling finances, family, work, schedule, and so forth, so I am open to the CBE model overall. My concern is whether the programs use valid metrics and employ qualified professors overseeing the CBE programs versus "for-profit" schools using it as a money grab and diploma/credential processing center. At the end of the day, the workplace needs competent employees who can perform their jobs. Historically, where one graduated mattered. I am unsure today, especially if the employee has the skill set. I feel blessed to have had the military and employer cover much of my tuition, so I picked schools with a good reputation overall.

FYI, while Purdue Global ExcelTrack used to have more CBE master's degrees available, as of right now, it's only their MBA and two nursing degrees.
