Bombed CLEP Introductory Business Law
#1
It happened today. My first computer-based CLEP exam. My first CLEP failure. I decided to take Business Law and Marketing on the same day. For this I had to drive 40 miles to a technical college because my old fashioned base education center only offers 14 out of 35 CLEP subjects, on paper at that.

I have read that Business Law is pretty easy, so I decided to take that first. I went into the center confident, even though I didn't have the chance to study. I maybe looked through 2 InstantCert sections a week ago. The exam got pretty confusing, and seemed to be based around the same scenarios and basic contractual law terms (which I did not know because I didn't study.) About a quarter ways through the exam, the network crapped out and I had to go get the proctor. After waiting a few minutes I had to move to another computer and log on, only to repeat the process one more time. By this point I could no longer concentrate, especially with these scenario-based questions that required me to read. I could hardly focus on the last ten questions in anxiety of anticipation of my results. The network crashed again right as I hit report score! I think I like waiting 2 weeks now for the paper and pencil score to come in, at least I am mentally prepared to find out my score in a couple of weeks! With this I knew it was only minutes away...and my blood pressure showed it! 47. After some cussing, and having to go to the back of the line to wait for another computer to take Marketing--I got a killer spot in the corner, focused and forgot my previous failure. Marketing was probably the most straightfoward exam I have taken so far, I looked at 65 InstantCert questions the night before and recalled a lot, pretty much all I studied was memorizing the 4 P's, and most of the questions can be answered by applying them, except for maybe 10 questions about e-commerce. The report score screen came, and I overpowered my shaking fingers and got my score--62. I think I miss waiting for my score!

The moral of the story, I believe I flunked Business Law because of the curve. Since it is perceived as an "easy" test, I think you have to answer more correct to get a high score. I dunno though, I don't write the tests.

Well, I never wanted to take the DSST Business Law 2, because I read it is hard, but I might have to now if I don't wanna wait 6 months!
19 DSST attempted - 54 credits awarded (1 unsuccessful)
11 CLEP attempted - 24 credits awarded (5 unsuccessful)
1 ECE attempted - 3 credits

Sorry about your BL-Clep experience today, I've been there myself with Clep-College Math - Sad   -, but there's always another day and another way!

The moral of your story is shared by many. What is perceived as easy to some may in fact be an evil demon to others. I excelled (easily) in all of the Psych, History, and Science exams but struggled through the economics and math classes. The opposite may be true in these areas with other students that post here. We are a collective classroom and share our experiences (good and bad) in an effort to do well ourselves and help others along the way too!

In the end, one must self-evaluate their own individual level of readiness and prepardness for any exam subject before sitting an exam.

Take heart, you will adapt, improvise, and overcome this experience and perhaps ironically be better for it in the end. GOOD LUCK!!

You should try to go through ALL of the instantcert sections at least once before a test--even if you rush through all of them in a couple of hours. To save a semester's worth of time fulfilling a requirement is worth the extra few hours I would say. Business Law is a very do-able test, but I haven't heard that it's an easy test--not on the level of tests such as mgmt, marketing, psych, sociology, etc... So, the fact that you barely studied and almost passed says a lot about your brains and test-taking skills!

Good work on the marketing, by the way!

Five, you had alot going against you that day, with the two cleps in one day long drive and network crashes. looks like you just missed it by a few guesses........ i personally think you need to use instantcert as a good primer but also take a few paractice tests from thomson and read carefully through the explained answers. As steve said, bus law is a very do-able clep, but you got to give yourself a fighting chance. BTW. no doubt you would have passed if that was the only test you took in the day, had no network crashes and were well rested and fed.
