I'm now in the process of applying to law schools, especially the new one at UC Irvine. I have letters of recommendation lined up from business contacts, but none yet from academia. I'd like to get people's opinions about whether it would be appropriate to ask Excelsior College president John Ebersole for such a letter. I did meet him briefly during last year's commencement weekend, and I suspect he may remember me, but we clearly don't have a relationship to speak of. On the other hand, I only took one online course at EC, and I think my professor for that course (whom I never met, and whose name I have forgotten) has even less of a relationship with me.
If it would not be inappropriate to ask for such a letter, how do you suppose I should go about it? Should I try to find an e-mail address and ask him directly? Approach it through the Alumni Association?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Yes.

Does excelsior use some sort of naming convention for emails? eg
Joe.epiphany@excelsior.edu? if so... try a few varieties of that convention.
Good luck.

Which was the capstone course of your degree. If you don't ask then you'll never get anywhere. I went directly to the President when my son had an issue with registering for a class. It was handled in record speed. I went to the web site map and looked under administration for her email address. Plan B could be to explain the situation to the Presidents assistant and ask her to intervene on your behalf.

From a previous post by you regarding the course:
gcalvin Wrote:Well, I don't exactly know. I sent an email to him about it, but he hasn't replied directly. He did remove the restrictive start times on the quizzes. I may try asking again, or I may just turn it in and risk taking a hit on the grade. By the way, are you in my class with Prof. Sherman?

I would just ask him directly. It will not hurt and he may be willing to, even though he had little interaction with you.
