Hi, I read your thread with great interest and thought I could add something I discovered.
TESC now has Open Course option for PLA-100 (4 modules represent 4 weeks) and Open Course option for PLA-200 (8 modules represent 8 weeks). I have completed the PLA-100 in an hour and am completing PLA-200 now. This takes longer as I'm working thorough my stuff, basically preparing my portfolio.
The best thing is that according to this web page at Saylor:

Quote:MILESTONE 3: The only Thomas Edison State College courses students must complete in the Open Course option are PLA-100/200, which review the concept and methods of prior learning assessment and will show you how to document and articulate your prior learning through the creation of portfolio assessments. You must complete this milestone in advance of submitting portfolios for any Saylor.org courses that you will have assessed in this way.
These courses are now openly licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC-BY 4.0), and can be freely accessed here (PLA-100) (PLA-200). If you choose, you can work through these open courses tuition-free. At this time, you cannot receive credit towards your degree for working through the open version of these courses; however, it will satisfy the program requirement. Once you have finished the courses, please alert Thomas Edison PLA staff before you submit any portfolios for assessment. (Note: If you opt to take the free non-credit versions of PLA100 and 200, you can make up the remaining 3 credits by taking an additional free elective course).

Quote:For those looking to earn up to 12 credits, there is a flat portfolio assessment fee of $350. For each additional 6 credits or part thereof, it’s another $200 assessment fee.LearningCounts charges $125 for a 3-credit course (+$149 for the self-guided tour). I could not find the option of earning more than 3 credits in a single PLA?
