University of Central Missouri grants undergraduate and graduate credits for ACTE courses. You must complete four modules per 1 credit. The difference between earning undergraduate and graduate credit is that, to earn graduate credit, one must write a reflection paper for each module and have a bachelor's degree. UCMO charges $125 per credit hour. ACTE charges $149 per course or $289 for unlimited courses. Most of ACTE's courses have education prefixes, but the leadership courses do not. I can't tell you if this affects how UCMO transcribes the courses. They might give a CTE (Career & Technical Education) prefix.

It would awesome if some school had a program where you could take all of these graduate credits and apply for a Master's in, I dunno, "University Studies", with perhaps a concentration in whatever the balance of your credits are in. Maybe have 1 resident course if they have to do that.

I wanted some more information about Central Missouri’s CTE offerings, so I reached out to the program administrator. Some things I learned:
Central Missouri offers an MS in Career and Technical Education. There are options for teachers (including new and already certified teachers), CTE administrators, and CTE industry.
I am not interested in becoming a certified teacher, so I am interested in the industry option. The degree program requires 30 credits. Up to half of them (15 hours) can be completed with individualized learning, such as the ACTE courses. The ACTE courses are transcripted with a CTE course number.
Completion of the degree requires: (1) a Thesis (2) two research papers consistent with university requirements; (3) a comprehensive examination; OR (4) successfully complete the Missouri Assessment Center Examination for their content area.
Assuming you completed 15 hours through ACTE and 15 through Central Missouri, the MS should cost:
(Per Central Missouri hour):
Tuition: 379.50
General fees: 38.45
Tech fees: 5.55
TOTAL: $6,352.50
(CTE Learn/ACTE hours):
Cent.Miss. credit: 150
TOTAL: $2,250
ACTE unlimited CE annual fee:
298
GRAND TOTAL:
$8,900.50

@freeloader, that's a pretty good deal. Have you thought about doing a degree at WGU for a similar program? They have Masters options in Education as well, a couple of terms would be the same pricing and can be done in a year, so there is no need to rush through it...

As I noted above, I am not interest in becoming a certified teacher or working in a K-12 setting. The thrust of the WGU programs seem to be for current or aspiring K-12 teachers. I am much more interested in adult education, corporate training, and related areas. Of the WGU degrees, I think the MEd in Instructional Design would be the most useful for my purposes, and I am considering it.
What appeals to me about the Central Missouri offerings is the ability to complete 15-18 graduate hours through ACTE continuing education/UCMO (what I really need for my own purposes and doable for ~$2,200-$2,500) and then potentially “top-up” to the MS subsequently, if I so chose.

Yup, I read that earlier, you don't have to be a teacher to take a couple of their programs. Ideas (a member of this board) got their WGU MEd in the same thing Instructional Design I think... or something else that didn't require her to be a teacher or anything. She was interested in adult/corporate education and training programs as well... If that is what you're looking for, the WGU Instructional Design might just be the ticket if you decide on them... otherwise, your "top up" from CM's MS would do!

@Tedium, so you're trying to use these ACTE credits as what others have used the VESI courses for... Previously, people used VESI courses and had them on an Augustana University transcript, then sent that to Amberton for transfer credit. Link: https://www.virtualeduc.com/direct_accou....php?uid=1
If you're using the ACTE option, it technically should work, as you're going to have to get the credits on a Central Missouri transcript and have them send it to Amberton directly. As long as they come in as graduate credit and 3 credits each, you should be fine...

A point about what bj said in his last post: the program director said that normally these courses come in as 1-credit courses with a generic CTE course number. I was told IF you are working toward a degree in CTE at UCMO, they will work with you to have a less generic course number associated with these credits and bring them in as 3-credit courses.
Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that before.
