Hey, stupid question here. How big a deal is it to graduate with honors? I reason I ask is my advisor at EC told me that if I have 6 more "graded" credits (for a total of 60) and have at least a 3.50 GPA, I will graduate with honors.
I am already taking World Pop in a few weeks so there's 3 credits. If I get an A on that 1 then I can slip in a C grade that I've kept from my evaluation or try to see if my SL accounting can get transcripted through Ft Hays to count.
I know you only have 30 days to make changes to your EC evaluation and I'm coming up on that date pretty soon. I guess I was just wondering if it's even worth worrying about and doing all the transcripting/maybe taking an extra test, etc., just to get it. :ack:
What do ya'll think?

What do ya'll think? Its kinda a vanity thing. I mean, if you have the GPA for it, but not the credits through EC, you can still put that GPA on applications and such, but every once in a while, its nice to have a little bit of an ego stroke to where you can say 'Oh, yeah, I graduated cum laude' and so on
If I were close enough to getting one, credit-wise, I'd most likely do the extra work for it personally. And, if it matters at all, its rare that degrees other than your undergrad will actually be given with such distinctions.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

When I realized it was achievable (oh, how I wish I had swapped a graded DSST for one of my 2 Cs!) I found myself enjoying the idea and working extra hard. Since starting back I'm at 3.9. As long as my term paper in Quant gets at least an 86 I hit honors territory with my current class, and I'm thrilled.

Okay, when I read the thread title, I thought for a minute that you were talking about learning Latin. ![Confused Confused](https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/images/smilies/confused.png) milelol: Yes, that's how familiar I am with college lingo.
If you didn't get honors for your degree, would you regret it later? Would you wish that you had fulfilled the extra requirement? I really don't know how much of a biggie it is, but for me it would be a nice personal achievement.
So far I have 14 Graded Credits (they've been marking grades for my PSEO courses, so I assume those are counting towards my GPA). If I can keep getting over 60 on my exams, then I should be fine.
Ora et labora,
R.

I agree with the above posters for most of the same reasons. I can't say if it's a "big deal" or not--but I believe that it's always a good idea to aim for the top and it's a slippery slope when you start settling for less--particularly when the top is so close. I focused on keeping my grades up so I could graduate with some distinction and I'm glad I did. My only regret is that I didn't push a little harder at the end and delve back into science to replace an old five credit "C" grade which would have boosted my cum laude designation to a magna cum laude. I pushed hard to get the cum laude and didn't have anything left in me at the end to delve back into a completely new subject area. Now--I wish I had done it.
If nothing else, this decision falls into the "Can't hurt--might help" category.

Thanks so much for the replies everybody. I think I am gonna "go for it"!! I am just getting soooo close to being finished and soooo tired that the thought of having to take 1 more test right now just seems like "such a big deal". Just being lazy I think.
I agree with all of your points and do think that 2 years from now it won't matter to me that I had to take 1 lousy extra test but it might matter that I graduated with honors. If to no one but myself.
I love this forum. You guys are all the best people any one could ever hope to know. My gratitude extends to you all - again.
Oh, and Ruddigore...Ora et labora. You. Are. The. Man. Hey, let's learn Latin together! You can probably use it somehow at EC towards your Eng Lit degree.
So, now I have to find an easy DSST test to take that I can score a quick A on. No pressure there, right? :willynilly:

Jade,
it sounds like you are going for it, and I would certainly recommend doing so. I am doing the same thing right now at EC, and as others mentioned before, you will find it worthwhile years down the road. You might have to put in a little more effort right now to take that extra test or class, but you won't ever remember those extra few hours years from now; you will however, always have the latin honors on your record.
The other benefit is if you ever pursue a graduate degree. If you decide to go to a highly visible school, the latin honors will make a difference. It's not the only thing, but with graduate school applications and interviews, every little thing counts.
Go for it, you won't regret it.

LOL! With 2 full classes and ALEKS College Algebra still to go I would welcome a test right now, especially as Excelsior has taught me that writing good M/C tests is a skill, not just something you learn in...uh...college.
Looking at your other thread, I second the Fundamentals of Counseling or Anthro suggestion, unless Art History or Geography are fun subjects for you (they are for me).
