Does anyone know whether the Spanish I Clep test is conducted in Castillian or Latin American Spanish? I have always been taught in Latin American, so I wanted to check before I just waltzed my way into a test! XD Look forward to hearing back! ~Snow

Castillian is Latin American Spanish, "Castellano". It is pretty much a neutral Spanish test, you might find some "vosotros" here and there but for the most part it will be your regular neutral Latin American Spanish so don't worry about it.

Castilian Spanish refers to a dialect spoken in parts of Spain. It's a little bit different from the Spanish spoken in most of Latin America.

When I took it in 1995, it was in latin american Spanish. I would have been lost otherwise. I got some points deducted because I showed up a few minutes after the test began and back then the proctor would play a record on a phonograph for the "understanding spoken spanish" section

I have heard candidates comment that the Spanish from the CLEP exam is more like that spoken in Spain (versus that spoken in Mexico). For the most part, they still do very well.

I passed this CLEP in July, and it was Latin American Spanish, but the accents weren't hard to understand at all. If you prepare for DELE Spanish proficiency exam DELE Diploma. Instituto Cervantes New York. you definitely get a mix of different accents from Latin America and Spain.
Currently preparing for:
Uexcel: Principles of marketing|CLEP Introductory sociology
Already passed: CLEP College Spanish (476)

You're both right! In Spanish, Perriquit tiene razón. In English, Sanantone is right.
If you study Spanish in school, in Latin America, you're usually said to be taking "castellano," rather than "español." Of course, you learn and speak Latin American Spanish. However, when English-speakers talk about "Castilian Spanish," they mean Spanish as spoken in Spain.

My high school always used español. I don't remember our textbook ever using castellano.

Sorry, I misread your post. You said Latin American schools use castellano. Of course, I didn't attend school in Latin America.
