Latest TESC evaluation - Speaking of anomalies
#1
TESC updated my evaluation today, minus the English CLEP which I have still not sent in. There are a few things I think may be of interest to people here:

1. I had excess credits rolling over to all the categories, which resulted in me having a number of "exceptions" listed. With the additional college credits coming in, my completed FEMA courses were pushed from "Free Electives" to "Other Courses", with one credit each still being listed. Some of you may recall that I am not actually enrolled yet, but was accepted the day the notices went out about the FEMA courses no longer being accepted. Luckily mine were all completed prior to that, & thus far seem to still be counting.

Am I right to think that "Other Courses" just means that TESC isn't sure where to list them? I notice that if I switch my evaluation to say "Liberal Studies", the courses seem to all fall into the prior categories (including FEMA), leaving me with less credits required towards graduation... & less credits in the "Other Courses" category.

2. This caught me totally off guard, but it's well worth mentioning. The department chair from my most recent college had reviewed my prior experience & gave me proficiency credit for 6 courses. That school was on the quarter system though, so it came into TESC as 12 credits rather than 18 credits for semester system. This is sort of a "word to the wise", but if you are going to try to get free proficiency credits, I would suggest getting them at a school on the semester system! Granted, some of the credits did transfer as upper level coursework, which was nice, so I'd say not to try getting profieciency credits at the community college if you know your proficiency is upper-level.

If I am correct about the evaluators simply not knowing where to put courses listed under "Other Courses" (and I have filled out my degree plan correctly which will hopefully be approved by the Dean), then it looks like I only need 18 more credits until graduation for the BA LDAS! Alternatively I could give in & go with the BA Liberal Studies (about 10 credits away). Of course I am going to be under the "per credit tuition" plan, so even though I'd only need 10-18 credits to meet the degree requirements, I'll have to have 24 credits to meet the residency requirements.

As a final thought, in some ways I am almost bummed. I still would like to fit a few more credits into my degree (i.e. fundamentals of counseling & substance abuse exams DSST exams), but honestly I have far too many credits as it is. C'est la vie!
