Last test to take...but which one? (Vietnam/Soviet Union/Middle East)
#1
I need one more UL to take for my BALS. My options are either DSST Vietnam War, Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union, and the Modern Middle East. banghead

Reading the specific feedback forum, Vietnam seems like it may come easiest. On FCP Modern Middle East is ranked easier (1 above Vietnam). From some post Soviet Union seems dreadful. I understand ease is relative to the tester, but I am curious as to what some of you guys took and why you chose it.

I'm ADD :willynilly: so studying is not my strong suit, but process of elimination and being a good recaller/test taker is. With that said, which test would someone recommend I give a go first. I'm military so the test are free and I have until march (when my capstone ends) to knock my last test (or 2 if the testing gods are not on my side) out.

Thanks for the input guys!! Confusedeeya:

the only one of those I took was modern middle east

I scored an A and wasn't as prepared as I thought I was

I read the dummies guide to the middle east and the idiot's guide to the middle east and thought I was prepared, but the test covered much more of the ottoman empire and WW1 - WW2 than I expected

all that info was in the books, I just skipped it, because I thought, "hey, modern middle east, that must be post 1948, right ?"

HA !
not quite

although there were many questions on Israel, the PLO, the 6 day war and so on, there were also many questions on pre 1948

apparently I'm a good guesser Smile

I don't think anyone would have a problem with the exam just from reading those 2 books

I've taken all 3 test, history of the Vietnam war was easiest simply because you had more familiar names, actions and operations. Also FreeClepPrep.com has an awesome practice test and the SparkNotes on the Vietnam War are on point.

SparkNotes: The Vietnam War (1945

I studied for about a week 15 hours total, using InstantCert, FreeClepPrep, SparkNotes and some notes from the specific forum. This test is very doable, knock it out and finish your degree. Happy holidays.

I took all three. I found Vietnam to be easiest, since it basically focuses on 20 years, as opposed to Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union which was more like 100, and Modern Middle East which should probably be titled "Middle East Since Mohammed, With an Emphasis on a Vague Period of Time Known as 'Modern.'"
The specific exam feedback was pretty useful for Vietnam, the Instantcert flashcards were good, Sparknotes had some good stuff, Wikipedia is generally excellent, and even Youtube had some good video resources. This was the only DSST exam I didn't use a big thick book to study for, and I did best on it. It's fairly easy.
Cheers,
Andy.

This might depend on your own current familiarization with each particular topic.
