Last minute tips for sociology CLEP?
#1
I've gotta take 5 CLEPs within a very small window of time. Sociology was supposed to be a given. But I have been so swamped with end-of-semester work that I hadn't gotten around to studying until today. My exam is in the morning. I took the official CLEP practice test before looking at anything and scored a 51. A fluke I'm guessing. I may have gotten lucky with some guesses, and my ability to use a test to take the test is pretty strong.

I've probably spent 5 hours total studying. I've gone through the IC flashcards a few times. I did the free exam on freeclepprep, scored a 79/100, but I felt that was kind of easy. Went through major topics on wikipedia and sparknotes. I understand most of the major terms and theories, I am just struggling to put names to them all. Not how I wanted to start off this string of CLEPs at all. If I fail this one I don't know what I'm going to do.

Take a deep breath, get a good night's sleep, calm down Smile. I think you'll do fine.

Keep in mind that CLEPs are multiple choice (with a few notable exceptions, but Sociology isn't one of them). That means that you just need to be able to recognize the correct answer when it's presented to you. You don't need to memorize and regurgitate all on your own. Most exams only need 60% or so correct to pass, and some of them are less than even that.

Honestly, I probably average 1-2 hours of preparation for most of my exams (the majority of which are in the social sciences). I've taken several completely cold (Psychology, Social Sciences and History, Anthropology...). The most credits I've earned in one week was 18, and I've taken two exams in one sitting on several occasions.

It's doable. It really, really is. I think at this point your main problem is nerves and lack of confidence, rather than lack of preparation. You've taken several practice tests, you've gone through the IC flashcards several times, and done additional studying on top of that. I think you're going to be fine Smile

Best of luck.

Thank you for the kind words! I scored a 62. The exam was very straight forward and covered a lot of the material I had reviewed prior. A lot more scenarios/concepts/terms than questions regarding historical figures, which I was happy with.

I was originally scheduled to take Humanities tomorrow at 12, but I have not even begun to prepare for that one. I didn't want to give up my spot either, so I opted for intro to psych which I will begin cramming for now!
