Good evening all,
I am about to take my first exam on study.com and my computer doesn't meet the technical requirements - I knew it was old but I didn't think THAT old haha.
Anyway, has anyone on this board recently bought a basic laptop that meets all the proctor requirements but at the same time is pretty inexpensive? I don't need any bells or whistles on the laptop - just to meet the proctoring requirements. If so, can you tell me the name and where you bought it from?
Thanks everyone.

Maybe you just need to update your browser?
I see cheap used Windows XP and above laptops on Facebook, Craigslist, or eBay.

Hello. No it's not to use study.com to view the lessons, quizzes, etc. It's being compatiable to take the proctored final exam. You need higher than windows XP

Per their website, the hardware/software requirements for Remote Proctor Now (aka Software Secure), the tool used for proctoring on Study.com, are the following:
For windows computers:
Webcam (internal or external) and microphone
Windows 7, 8/8.1, or 10 (32 or 64 bit)
.NET Framework 4.0 or higher
Latest version of flash
At least 200kb/s upload speed network bandwidth
Internet Explorer 32-bit recommended
For Mac computers:
Webcam (internal only) and microphone
MacOS 10.10 or higher
Latest version of flash
At least 200kb/s upload speed network bandwidth
Safari recommended
I don't see any specific minimum hardware requirements (like processor speed or RAM). But I'd advise at least 4GB of RAM (higher is better).

In order to use Software Secure yourself, you'll need a few things:
A webcam
A working microphone
A photo ID
An internet connection 200kb/s (.2mb/s) upload speed
And an exam code
Keep in mind that you'll need to take a 360-degree scan of your room with your webcam, so it needs to be separate from your computer. Or, if you're up for it, you can turn around your laptop the whole way.
When you click that 'Register for Exam' button below, you'll be given an exam code, and then asked to test your system. The Software Secure website will test your system hardware, making sure that you have all of the previously listed items (except the exam code).

As mentioned in the prior post, an external webcam is not supported by RPNow on Mac systems. The webcam may work, but the sound can be affected which will invalidate your proctor session. I know this first hand.

I also see some cheap used Win 7 and Win 8 laptops on Facebook, Craigslist, and eBay. Especially Win 8 because a lot of people disliked that OS compared to Win 7 or Win 10.
