LVN/LPN to RN - options for (mostly) online education?
#11
OK, thanks to the input here, I think there might be an option for him.

American River College (which is within spittin' distance) has an LVN-RN bridge program. It seems like there is a lot of minutiae here, and this is an area where I am out of my depth.

But from what I can see, I wonder if getting a Pierpont AA in health careers or biology would give a headstart toward meeting the general degree requirements and some of the bio requirements?  It seems like that might be an easier route than trying to get ARC to accept Sophia credits directly.

Also, does anyone have input on whether there are alt credit options for any/all of the bio courses listed on the requirements, or whether the Sophia requirements might match up?

Thanks again for your help!

There's a good chance that they won't accept Sophia credits at all, directly or indirectly. It's unlikely that anyone here will know for sure though, since it will be specific to that school. Best bet is to contact the school directly to find out.

On second thought, after looking at the curriculum for an associate (ASN) degree, it may be better to just go for the LVN to RN with a BSN.

I hope no nursing schools accept Sophia classes for fundamental pre reqs like anatomy which should be done in a life proctored environment with station testing and actual specimens. These classes have always been very difficult in person and are often used as cut courses for admission. They form the basis for fundamental nursing practice, not something you half ass finish over the course of a week.

Luckily, Sophia is just using this as a marketing ploy and the vast majority of nursing schools will not accept pre reqs done in this manner.

That’s a tricky situation, but there are definitely ways your friend can make it work. My cousin was in a similar spot with his LVN from a vocational program.

He ended up finding an LVN-BSN bridge program that accepted his credits after doing some digging, even though it wasn’t institutionally accredited. Schools with more flexible credit transfer policies could be a good option, so your idea about TESU might be worth exploring. He also checked out 'various resources' and found some helpful resources that pointed him in the right direction. It might be worth your friend’s time to explore similar sites to see what’s out there.
