Keep job during final term?
#1
Hi everyone, I'm preparing to try and do the one term final-16 credit thing at TESU starting in March (just got to wrap up 2 TEL courses in April).

Do u think its viable to do the plan below while keeping my part-time retail job?

I work 3 days a week, don't have kids or any other commitments. For certain reasons I can't study much on weekends. Was planning to do the actual courses rather than e-Packs.

Prior Learning Assessment
Critical Information Theory
Intro to Psychology
Nutrition
Computer Concepts
Business Capstone

I don't have any direct experience with those courses, but it might be difficult to do if you're only devoting 2 days a week to school. On the other hand, if you spend 2 days a week doing nothing but school and can manage to squeeze in a couple of hours after work, it might be doable. PLA-100 and Computer Concepts should be relatively easy. You should be able to mostly finish the cornerstone in a day or two, leaving just the discussion posts.

Maybe you could keep your job and move down to just one or two days a week. Or still work 3 days a week but work shorter shifts maybe get off an hour or two earlier. Either option would have you still working but have more time for school.

Maybe you could swap two of those for a 6 credit course. I think that Nutrition could be more work than many courses.

6 classes? While working 3 days a week, only doing school 2 days a week, and no weekends for school? That will be tough! Your 2 days dedicated to school will be like 18+ hour days.

Well, the PLA isn't a full course. It takes maybe a day to complete. The cornerstone is similar. So that leaves 4 courses for a semester, not 6.

4 courses is still a lot for someone only working on classes 2 days a week. That's also assuming they complete those 2 courses in a day. Psychology will have a lot of reading. Nutrition probably will as well.

Congrats on your last term! 16 credits seems to be a lot for one term. luckily, Prior Learning Assessment won't take much time to complete. During my last term, I took three courses and was able to keep my full-time and part-time jobs, but it was kind of challenging to keep up with the deadlines (I missed a few, but still passed). If you can devote your off days (including weekends) to completing your schoolwork, I think you'll be just fine. Just stay organized with your assignments. But just 2 days of study a week..... that might be very difficult.

Honestly, the business capstone is a great deal of work on its own.

I would be ready to put the capstone on extension if time gets tight. That should give you enough wiggle room to keep your part time job, but I think you'll still have to plan on doing school more than 2 days a week.

Also, always be sure to notify your mentor if you even think you might need to turn something in late. TESU policy requires them to dock points if you miss a due date, unless you have prior permission. If you don't notify the mentor, their hands are tied.
