I'm about to do this assessment and I'm shaking in my boots. If it's anything like the free trials I'll probably be working on this for a very long time. Lol. Wish me luck guys!

Its not that bad. Have no fear and keep on working your pie. Do College Algebra first. Remember you need greater than 69.8% to pass so if you master 358 topics you are good. Its lot...lot easier than it looks - trust me!

Thanks Al2010x! I'm still on the assessment and so far it looks slightly easier than the ones in the trial account I had. Smile

I recently did this, and I too had a terrible time with algebra. It took me about a month from start to finish to learn all the concepts. But even through it was long and tedious, I feel like the ALEK's method is really a good one. You have to show that you really understand the concepts before they give you a measly point.

I depended on Khan Academy a LOT! I did that thing were there is a button to click that says something like "explain this" after I took the first exam and then I printed out their step by step instructions. I just kept working at the problems again and again until it finally began to click. I really can't say enough good things about the Khan Academy. You don't have to go through the entire Khan Academy series like I started to months ago. You can just create an account and use the search box type in the areas you need work in and then watch and quiz away on Khan until you feel like you are ready to take the real questions on ALEK's.

There will be times where you just don't think you can carry on. Take a break, move to another piece of the pie. I was MUCH better at the geometry then the polynomials. You might be the same or the opposite. The beauty of ALEK's is it lists the topics you are ready to learn on the list above (or was it below) the pie chart assessment. I just went down that list and when I got stuck and really badly, I moved to a new slice of pie. Like I said, it took me about a month with work and school, so it's totally possible to pass. You just have to keep plugging along Smile

Best of luck!

Good luck. ALEKS has gotten loads of praise on this forum and I hope it is the method to get you the credits you need. How soon after you sign up does your account become active? How many questions on your first assessment on your paid account? How much time do you have to do it? Which class are you starting with?

You probably already know this, but once your get to your 70% (real or rounded up!), you need to have the results transmitted to your ACE account. Make sure that you have one. Also, as I understand it, don't go on to another course or cancel your account until you see your results in your ACE transcript. (Something like that. Search this forum for the exact process. Unless you're a masochist, you wouldn't want to go through the process of assessing a second time just because of an "oops.") Again, good luck.

I love Khan Academy Tara! I used a lot of their videos after a trial account at ALEKS helped me to see some of the areas that I needed to work on. I'm so glad you mentioned them. I also forgot that Education Portal had some videos for College Algebra. If their videos for math are half as effective as the ones I watched for history they would have been really amazing as well! Thanks so much for the encouragement! Smile

Thanks for the tips LateBloomer! Just saw this post. Smile After you sign up for an account it is active immediately and you can access it 24/7. ALEKS has a great reputation on this forum with good reason. I just wish they had the rest of the 200 classes I have left in my major. lol. My first assessment on the paid account for College Algebra had 31 questions.

That's awesome! I knew you would make it! Smile Nice work! Yeah, I like the Education Portal videos because I am so visually oriented. Between the cute little videos and the short quizzes, I found education portal videos great for someone like me that I am sure has some form of Adult ADD! I can't stay on one topic too long unless I am really into it. I love things that are complex and interesting and I can study things that interest me for hours... but if something more interesting comes along…I am tempted to go down that rabbit hole. Algebra is so much of knowing the rules, and formulas for each kind of problem. I found that with ALEK's I could focus on one section of the pie for only so long. Once I felt like I was hitting a wall, I would either take a break or try a new slice of pie. I am SO happy the inventor of ALEK's came up with this formula. I truly believe it has helped thousands of people just like me (and I hope I can say you too?) learn abstract concepts like Algebra.

Thrilled you passed and hope you realize that you can truly do anything you put your mind to!

Congrats!
