JumpCourse.com - Anyone have any experience?
#1
I have just discovered a new provider of ACE recommended credit within the ACE Alternative Credit Project: https://JumpCourse.com/alternative-credit-project I briefly checked out the Statistics course without membership. It appears to use professional videos from places like You-Tube which look much better than the offerings on Sophia.com It has quizzes and practice exams and a final for credit like Study.com It's $149 fixed fee for a max 6 month term. The videos I sampled for stats were time-wise long, but with great detail and insight. Looks like it may be a great bargain for someone who really wants to learn the material well enough to go on to further study or just needs more "ground floor" instruction to get through the subject.

I am currently using JC for microecon and stats, but haven't gotten very far into stats yet. I also looked at Sophia for both, and the only thing that held me up was cost. I also tried out SL for both. The thing that made me choose JC was their 100% money back guarantee - if I don't like it and don't think it's helping me to pass the exam, I can cancel and get my money back. I'm going to hold them to that.

I'm doing the $99 for each course, and if I decide to take their final, I can "upgrade" by paying $50 for the exam.

So far, microecon is just ok. I like that they have videos, written, and practice (basically quizzes) for each section. But, sometimes, they just do not explain things well at all. I want to really understand this stuff, and there are definite holes. They also have about a MILLION sections, and some don't look to be covered on the TECEP/CLEP exams. So I may just skip those.

I stopped over the holidays, and then came back and watched an overview on YouTube by Mr. Clifford and another lady (might have been CrashCourse?). Anyway, then I went on to ACDC Econ and am watching those videos. They are excellent, and have found a way to explain things in a much better way. At this point, I'm thinking that I'll continue watching all of the ACDC videos and then see how I do on the quizzes from JC. And if I do ok, and think I can pass a test, then I'll probably take the TECEP. But I'm guessing that JC is not really what's preparing me for the test, it's just giving me an opportunity to quiz myself, which ACDC doesn't do. But, with free Peterson's tests through my local library, I can take 3 full-length practice tests. So then I really don't need JC.

I spent a little time on Stats, and again, explanations are somewhat lacking. I actually had to write to them after a quiz and tell them that it asked a question that there was no way for me to answer, because they never explained the concept. They wrote back and said I was right, and added the info to their notes (it was a section without video, which is frustrating-that's the reason I'm doing it this way instead of through ALEKS).

Also, I wanted to take these courses because it was free for me if they didn't work out, and because I'm kind of checking out alternative resources for my kids going forward - my daughter will be starting high school next year, and she is interested in getting college credits for the next 4 years. And my son will need higher math sooner rather than later. They have different learning styles, so this seemed like a good way to get a good look at a program overall.

Just my experience. Not sure it's worth it at this time, although I like having a set cost for a longer length of time (unlike SL), and I like that there are videos AND written explanations, as well as quizzes. But I think ALEKS combined with KhanAcademy is a better option for Stats. And ACDC videos combined with Peterson's practice tests and IC flashcards is a better option for Econ.

Used them for accounting and OB. The price isn't bad but it takes far too long to run through a course and the final does not match with what is taught in the course material. Customer service has to be contacted to set up the final, there is no button to click on for auto set up as of when I was used them. Once you figure out how to access the final, the UI is difficult to navigate. If you click on the wrong thing it will cancel the test. Customer service will have to be contacted to restart the test. The final itself is the same as SL. Same UI and proctor style. If you fail the proctored final their is a $15 dollar retake fee that can only be paid through Pay Pal and a two week cool down period is mandatory. Retakes are unlimited. I do not recommend JumpCourse. The final straw for me was that the accounting course exercises were buggy. Use PF/SL/CLEP/DSST/ALEKS, etc. Stay away from JumpCourse.
