Check out the Net Library and search for Pimsluer audio for the language you want to tackle first. The method is listen and repeat, just like we all learned our own respective languages; it works.

I'm interested in learning a combination of the above...just wondering if anyone as input! those pimslauer tapes are a good supplement..... but it would be better to really take a course in community college or at one of their cultural centers.... in chicago, the japanese cultural centers offer japanese very cheap compared to the costs of taking it in a university or a community college... likewise i also heard of an arabic cultural center that offer arabic .... i had seen the arabic language and its not an easy language to learn in comparison with the european languages... i know this for a fact since i myself speak another european langauge besides english .... arabic is a semitic language related with hebrew...so learning hebrew would also be beneficial .... i heard the arabic language thats spread from north africa all the way into central asia has at least a couple of 20 dialects.... so even the native speakers have problems understanding their neighbors .... swahili is an african language that has an arabic mix..... arabs traded with african tribes...so if you know arabic , you can pick up hebrew and swahili..... Turkish is an oriental langauge related to the ughuirs living in china ..... you will need to listen to those tapes..... try the new york language school....as well....
