This day always brings to mind July 4th in 1826 when both Thomas Jefferson AND John Adams passed away, 50 years to the day of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. We need more men like that now (okay, women too...who can forget Dolley Madison!) to guide this country out of the muck it is in.
Thank you to all the military on this site that serve their country. Even though seldom said, you are appreciated by us all here in the land that our forefathers fought and died for.

Ditto. Mega dittos! It is because of all those that have fought and continue to fight for our country that we are still free. Let's pray that we remain so!!!

So what did everyone do to celebrate?
We went to a Great Big Huge Outdoor Amphitheatre for a concert. The local symphony played a whole bunch of patriotic pieces and wound up with the 1812 Overture, complete with real cannons. My dad fired one of the cannons (actually a cute little mortar) and gets a big kick out of talking about "playing with the symphony." hilarious The concert ended with a big whoppin' fireworks show. Very cool.
