UMPI BA in History & Political Science with Minors Spreadsheet

If the minor is 18 credits and it shares 12 credits with the major, you cannot complete that minor. You'll need to transfer in most of the courses for the International Studies minor as it is not available on YourPace. YourPace only contains the courses required to complete the specific degrees listed on the YourPace website. International Studies is an on campus minor, but you can transfer in courses for it. The foreign language requirements is 9 credits - 6 beyond the GEC requirements. You may be able to complete multiple languages. You will need to contact the YourPace academic advisor to confirm that multiple languages would work or if only 1 language is acceptable. Then you need to figure out where to get the credits from. If you want your degree done quickly, just stick to completing a major only without the extra minor.

Got it, thanks bunches. For Intl. Studies in particular, I already have 29 RA CHs of languages, which are listed as "language course" in the notes column. My spreadsheet just randomly assigns 3 of these language courses in those 3 language slots in the minor (Spanish 2 + Spanish 3 + Mayan or Japanese or something) that are distinct from the History major's two language requirements (Intensive Portuguese + Advanced Portuguese). I could easily swap them to make it Spanish 1-3 or Portuguese 1-3 in the Intl. Studies sequence, if it needs to be within the same language family. I will complete POS 301, HTY 370, and HTY 377 at UMPI for the History major. I will also transfer in HTY 439 from SDC, but it applies to the major too. In total, 9/21 Intl. Studies CHs are unique from the major, so seems I will need to take another HTY course at UMPI that doesn't apply to the major to offset that. Sounds like a plus to me, really.

I'm also at 12/24 CHs overlapping for the Social Studies minor with the History major, but I have so many UL ANT courses that I could easily replace some of the UMPI UL HTY courses with them. Or, you know, just drop the idea of getting this minor.

Pre-Law only has 3/21 CHs overlapping with the major (POS 101). Business Admin is totally disconnected. Their coursework will be fine.

Quote:ETA: One thing i just noticed. You have already completed a bachelor's degree and many of the courses you're looking to use for the major and minor were already used for the BS. Some schools won't count those credits towards a second degree. You will need to check with UMPI that they will be acceptable.

In my OP, I wrote that "Jessica mentioned my previous coursework 'can apply toward your UMPI degree but you'll still need to meet our residency requirements,' and more specifically, 'of the 30 courses you have to take at UMPI 12 of those credits must be in the major and of those twelve 9 of them have to be at the 300/400 level.'" Since I see some of my Tulane History coursework appearing within the UMPI degree model in the History major, this appears to check out.

For fun and as a passion project. I earned a History minor in my 1st BS degree that was also unintentionally accelerated, so I kind of want the chance to go the distance and tie up loose ends. I was mid-process with applying to Ed.D. and Ph.D. programs in Higher Education but wasn't comfortable with rushing to meet the looming deadlines, and I feel like this History degree will tide me over. I'm also very interested in issues of college access and inclusion as a potential research focus after my experience as a college counselor and reading books like "The Privileged Poor," and I believe that completing a degree in an unconventional way with unconventional credits can help me better understand this form of disruptive education and its benefits to people who may not have seen a college degree as obtainable.

Basically, I don't want another MS now. I just want a detour into the past, back to when I thought I wanted to be a social studies teacher, while simultaneously veering toward future research interests during my trip down memory lane. I'm looking forward to the past.

I confirmed that I will only need six new HTY courses to complete the major. Three other courses would presumably go toward minors, and the tenth one is currently a throwaway course. I am still waiting to hear if the minors are possible as I set them up; they are asking the registrar to see "whether we can award minors if you don't take any of the courses from us." I've seen several other users have gotten 1-3 minors added with no real issues mostly through transfer credits, and I'll be taking courses at UMPI that apply within each of the minors anyway, so that's curious.

I completed 11 SDC courses over the last three weeks, but could only take the exam for five of them. Waiting on that logjam to clear up to take more exams, since I didn't know my subscription period would shift forward by a week after upgrading from the premium plan to the college accelerator. I have still another seven courses that would be totally wrapped up by May 8, but they're for fun and I won't take the exams. Just ready to be allowed to begin.
