Is it worth debating how RA transfer credits come in?
#1
I transferred 77 credits from my community college that I completed 16 years ago.  While I'm thankful that TESU took them all, I'm a little perplexed by what some of the equivelencies are.

My Sociology course (click for course description) came in as SOC-173, which falls under "Add'l AOS Elect" in my BACJ degree plan.  If they accepted it as SOC-101 (SOC-1010) (click for current syllabus) it would fulfill the "Diversity Intercultural Literacy" requirement.  However, this may create a snowball effect of stuff moving around and then having a harder to fill spot left open.

For reference, here is my plan so far. Google Docs BACJ Degree Plan (Note: I'm aware I need to make up some UL credits somewhere)

So, bottom line.  Is it worth seeing if TESU will change what it came in as?  And if so, how do I do that?

I have appealed numerous transfers to TESU, and almost all of them were successful. It's just a quick email explanation and a syllabus upload to them, so it's definitely worth trying to appeal. Worst they can say is no.

Fantastic, thank you!  I was hoping it was just an email to them and not some complicated process.

In your opinion, do you think applying my SOC course as SOC-101 is a better use than it being an Additional AOS Elective? I imagine I can find other electives in ACE credit.

The first and best use of your Sociology course is where it is - you would always want to have it be in the AoS. And, Intro to Soc is one of the easiest courses to find, so that's kind of a no-brainer. That being said, if you still need add'l UL credit in the AoS, and have to take something to replace that course anyway, then it would pay to have it re-evaluated and given a SOC-101 equivalency, and then moved to Diversity.

It really just depends on what you still need to get.

When courses are fit into your degree plan, they are slotted into the best use currently available. In order:

1. AOS Requirement
2. AOS Elective
3. Gen Ed Requirement
4. Gen Ed Elective
5. Free Elective

They've put it in AOS elective because that comes ahead of GenEd. If you take or transfer other AOS electives, it might get bumped to the GenEd slot.
