Faint roots? Santa Claus is literally derived from the Christian religious figure St. Nicholas.
My point is that many atheist's are hypocrites when attempting to co-op a Christian holiday. If they are true atheist's they should not be celebrating a Christian holiday.

Co-opt?!!?! If anyone dares to say, "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas", it's a war on Christmas. I'm just obliging you guys by playing along.

"Target has signs up that say Merry Christmas for the first time in a long time. "
The "War on Christmas" is often mentioned, and apparently, some people keep track of how much retailers embrace Christmas cheer. Those who don't show enough enthusiasm end up on the "naughty list."

The trend of wrapping cars in Christmas lights is getting popular. I even saw one myself recently.

Strawman, you are confusing me with other people. I do not care what anyone says about the holidays.

I celebrate Christmas.
But saying "Happy Holidays" is just so much easier than saying "Have a Festive Advent, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Joyous Epiphany!" Like really? Even if you ignore Hanukkah (which is the day after Christmas this year) and Kwanza (same), all of December and up until January 6th is full of Christian holidays.
Happy Festivus, y'all.

There’s no war on Christmas. Happy Holidays is fine too. But in the USA, Christmas Day has been deemed a Federal Holiday by law (5 U.S.C. 6103). So it is both a religious and non religious holiday. Celebrate it as you wish… or don’t. Either way, it really doesn’t affect me or anyone else. Arguing about it is absurd.
