Aah yes, the very classic and very real “War on Christmas”. Nothing triggers the right more than saying Happy Holidays.

I've always laughed so hard at this. Here I am, an atheist, and the far right wants to insist I say "Merry Christmas". So I do, meaning Santa and Rudolph and presents, and turning it ever faster into a strictly secular holiday.
If it were MY very special religious holiday, I'd be trying to STOP the stores and non-Christians from using the term constantly.

I'm a slow typer... X-mas has been used a few times when I type... I am not really sure why I switched back and forth between the two! I always thought it was interchangeable to say the least...

I always found it strange how "atheists" celebrate a Christian holiday literally named after a Christian religious figure Jesus Christ. There is nothing secular about Santa Claus who is another Christian religious figure originating from the Christian Saint Nicholas.
Atheists should practice what they preach and not celebrate religious holidays.

I have no problem with Happy Holidays since even though a significant majority of the U.S. is Catholic/Christian we have plenty of other minority religions.and you never know whom you are saying it to. I live in NJ which has a large Jewish population.

There is something VERY secular about a Santa Claus that lives at the North Pole with Elves who make the presents and delivers them with flying reindeer. The fact that it has faint roots in religious tradition doesn't help at all.
P.S. I really don't do any "preaching" as an atheist (I really detest the atheists that think it's fun to ridicule other's beliefs) and I'll celebrate however I like, thank you.
P.P.S. Lest you think I'm being hypocritical, I don't think that Christian beliefs are funny, it's the insistence on pushing commercial interests to acknowledge and market the holiday I find absurd.

Christmas is no longer just about religion. It has turned into a hyper-capitalist consumer-based holiday. Those Coca Cola polar bears have nothing to do about Jesus.

Why is it called "Christmas"?
Faint roots? Santa Claus is literally derived from the Christian religious figure St. Nicholas.
My point is that many atheist's are hypocrites when attempting to co-op a Christian holiday. If they are true atheist's they should not be celebrating a Christian holiday.
