Introduction & Question
#1
I am new to this, but wanted to introduce myself and thank all of you for sharing so much of your knowledge. I am a homeschool mom and in the process of helping my oldest daughter (16) get ready for a CLEP I decided that just maybe I could work on getting my degree. My daughter and I are studying together for the Sociology CLEP and will take it in 3 weeks.

Since I decided to work on my degree I requested my transcript from my old college. It is an RA state school but the credits are 15 years old. This is what I have:

Acting: C
Intro to Gerentology: D (will this even transfer)
Eng. Comp I: B
Elem. Spanish I: B
Interpersonal Communications: C
Western Civ: C
Biology: B

Since, I don't have a whole lot it seems like I can just start testing, but I want to make sure that I am taking the tests I need to complete a degree. I am thinking of doing an AA in Liberal Arts and maybe down the road getting bold enough to go for a BA in Social Science. Would anyone like to point me in the right direction.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
It's great to hear that both of you are going to be attempting testing together, it will make it easier to study when two are involved. Since you are interested in a BA in Social Science, I have included the link to my wife's suggested degree plan. You can look it over, and the comments from others, to tailor your own degree plan. Hope this helps,

You can also do some searches on the forum to find more degree plans that have been posted.
Again, welcome to the forum

I am hoping that doing it together will make it easier. Who would have thought that I would be working on earning college credit with my daughter.

I downloaded the degree plan and it cleared some things up for me. Thanks!

Good luck and I recommend taking some business classes as gen eds since they are so relevant to the work place. Definitely take micro and macro tests since they are social science. Organizational behavior at TESC transcribes as either a psychology or business class so that is useful for both majors.
I would recommend taking the business core: micro, macro, management, marketing, statistics, business communication, info sys and computer applications.

These courses will give you social science, math and natural science and also at the same time qualify you for most of the business core. You may find that you decide to finish the BSBA degree once you get this far.

Good luck!

TESC BSBA General Management
Thomas Edison State College | BSBA in General Management Credit Distribution
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

I think there's at least one or two others just like you poking around here somewhere... I wish I'd known I could study for CLEP as a teenager. Wow.

There are many posts on the sociology exam. The REA book is excellent. Search for Wikipidedia sociology links to find links to Wikipedia pages. On Wikipedia, pay attention to the first few parapgraphs and skim the rest.
