I wonder if the exam is facts only or interpretation of facts as well?
I am hoping to take it at some point, because that region is of great interest to me. But, having lived there for 2 1/2 years, I suppose the complexity of the exam merely reflects the complexity of the region and its amazing history. If the exam is mostly facts-based, it would be a little easier to study for it, but if it requires analysis it would be complex because it all depends on your frame of reference.

Thats funny, Intro to Modern Middle East is mostly about battles, or should I say the victors point of view and policies they enforced. I found the topic quite enjoyable.
Snazzlefrag, don't fret, I'm willing to bet you passed. I felt a bit of anxiety waiting only to find a great score in the mailbox.

Thanks for your encouragement everyone! I really appreciate it.
Assuming (and it's a big assumption) that I have passed my last three exams, I am done with all my DANTES/CLEP exams (39 exams to date).
My remaining subjects will be ECE and TECEPs. I am six exams away from my BS in Psychology, and four exams away from my BS in Business.
However, I need to take a break from exams for a while. Firstly, to let my brain "heal" and "power up" again. Secondly, to get my house ready to sell. I am moving to California as soon as I am packed up. But I wanted to get all my remaining DANTES/CLEP exams out of the way before I moved (I've taken 14 exams/42 credits in the last few weeks).
If for some reason, I have failed any of my last three exams, I will likely take replacement exams before I leave for CA.
We'll see how it goes,

Hi All,
I got my score back for Modern Middle East today. I was extremely nervous about this one, but I got a 66.
It took 18 LONG, AGONIZING days to get my score this time.
My previous statements about the difficulty of this exam still stand. However, it appears that the scoring of this particular exam grants us quite a bit of grace.
If I had to do it all over again, even knowing now that I ended up getting an 'A' on this exam, I still wouldn't choose to take it again.
If you must take it, be prepared to feel like an idiot during the exam. Be prepared to think you may have failed it, for the next 2-4 weeks. But also know that the curve works in your favor, and it IS possible to do well on it!
Hope that helps,
Snazzlefrag

Nice work! That was easily the most frustrating I ever took. And you did far better than me! Great job!

Wow, talk about a different exam than presented here! Most of the test I took revolved around the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century. The test name is misleading, as the term 'modern' leads you to believe happenings since WWII seem more important to our world what color hats people wore in 1831 (yes, that was an actual question) while the PLO was not even mentioned once.
I don't feel I am being harsh, but honest. This site gives you a good background to understand the current happenings in the Middle East, but unfortunately not for the DSST exam.

Does anybody know about any good websites with maps showing changes in territory that would help prepare me for this test?

No map suggestions, but here's a resource for others who are looking for stuff. I am planning to take this exam in about three weeks and this was the book that was recommended to me as "all I would need to know." Of course, I plan to do IC extensively also, but thought I'd pass along the book title as a supplement to y'all. I can't recommend it from personal experience yet, but thought I'd mention it anyway.
A History of the Modern Middle East, Third Edition, by William L. Cleveland.
I bought it used from Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more for about $20, I think.

This book was recommended to you by someone who took the test and did well on it, or by someone who really enjoyed reading the book?
Thanks,
Eliepoll
P.S. still interested in maps
