Seems like you are using TESU - just a heads up that they requirTe 16 credits through them or you pay a $3000 fee. That’s true and worth taking into consideration. That said, I don’t know if I want to take a bunch of TECEP’s for classes I don’t need in order to avoid the residency waiver. I have Tuition Assistance but it only covers 4 classes from TESU per year so it’s not worth waiting to use TA to cover the classes I have not yet tested out of. I might be being ignorant : but what are TECEP's? They are the TESU version of CLEP’s. There are some overlaps with other sources of alternate credit. I see you have military credits. If your still active i believe the residency requirement is waived... I could be completely wrong though.

If you are current military, the rules are different for you. Please let us know if this is the case.

If you are current military, the rules are different for you. Please let us know if this is the case. I am active duty, and it’s true the rules are different at TESU for military members. That said, for me personally it’s still worth it to pay the residency fee and only do two classes there. Otherwise I’m going to have to do for classes through tuition assistance and then another for out-of-pocket to meet the residency threshold. Even with the military discount on classes. I’m still paying $3000 to meet the 24 credit minimum for the tuition waiver. So it’s a wash for me. Alternatively, I could spread out tuition assistance across two years and then get the residency waiver for free. I’m not willing to wait two more years to Finish my degree when I can have it done in six months.

This is for you guys: Take all the TECEPS even though you don't need it, just pass it for credit!
Military = Army, National Guard, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard (Anyone Active with a JST)
Military Link: https://www.tesu.edu/degree-completion/m...y-training
Residency Link: https://www.tesu.edu/admissions/faqs-cre...-residency
Civilians - Residency Requirements: 16 credits using Online, Guided Study, or E-Packs
With the study.com discount, it's $379x16 = $6064
Military - Residency Requirements: 24 credits using Online, Guided Study, E-Packs AND TECEP OR Portfolio Assessment
With the TECEPs Lower Level at $50 a credit, 24 credits = $1200
TLDR: In short - If you're an active service person (ladies and gents), take all the TECEPs you can and skip the residency waiver, even if the courses duplicate what you currently have.

In order to satisfy the credit requirement for the Military Degree Completion Program, Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership or the GoArmyEd Program, service members must earn 12 semester hours for an associate degree and 24 semester hours for a bachelor’s degree of Thomas Edison State University credit. All Thomas Edison State University earned credit satisfies the military credit requirement; including Guided Study/Online/Blended/e-Pack courses, TECEP exams and/or Portfolio Assessment.

Shoot, I wish I have caught that before. Ok, Let me swing back and look. There are a few options I can take.

You get to use TECEP's for residency, and not pay the residency waiver. Huge savings.
I would do the easiest possible TECEP exams - Applied Liberal Arts math, Computers, whatever you can find that sounds easy (read the syllabus). Even if it duplicates other efforts, it's worth it.

Yeah if you are military it makes sense to not pay the wavier and do teceps. For military teceps are actually cheaper too. Ll teceps are only 50/credit and ul are 75/credit.
So say you do 18 credits of teceps all ll that's $900.
The other 6 credits would come from the cap and cornerstone. But you have to do that anyways.
900 is quite a bit cheaper than the 3000 residency fee. This easily seems like the best option and maybe tuition assistance pays for the teceps so even better.
