Information and Telecommunications Technology V.S Computer Studies
#1
I want to get a AAS degree in Information and Telecommunications Technology, but then the degree plan isn't set up the way I wanted it..
ITTS : Century College
http://www.century.edu/files/programs/pr...icates.pdf

Would it be smarter to take the class I need to take, then just transfer for a Computer Studies degree at
Thomas Edison State College: Applied Computer Studies

???
If so, then how do I go about this process and will Thomas Edision accept these courses?

I'm looking at taking

ITT 1031 Network Fundamentals (CCNA-1)
ITT 1032 Routing Protocols and Concepts (CCNA-2
ITT 2031 LAN Switching and Wireless (CCNA-3)
ITT 2032 Accessing the WAN (CCNA-4)
ITT 2041 Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (CCNP-1)
ITT 2042 Implementing Secure Converged Wide Area Networks (CCNP-2)
ITT 2043 Building Converged Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (CCNP-3)
ITT 2044 Optimizing Converged Networks (CCNP-4)
ITT 1070 Telephony Systems
ITT 2060 Computer Telephony Integration
ITT 2070 Video Integration
ITT 2080 Internship
MCST 2032 Linux/UNIX System Administration

A.A.S Information and Telecommunications Technology V.S A.A.S Computer Studies

Which looks better and makes more sense in a resume?

That sounds like a lot of courses for the Area of Study on an AAS. If you plan on taking that many courses then you'd probably want to look at a Bachelors Degree. TESC will take any credits from Century which are college level (just like mine from Normandale) but with the specialization of those courses you'd need to make sure they transfer for what you want to get. As a fan of both MNSCU schools like yours, and a current student at TESC, I guess the choice for your degree is a difficult one to make. If you are hoping to do an AAS, have no existing credits, and plan on taking all of the courses (rather than testing out or using prior learning assessment) then you're better off staying at Century or another local school. Trying to bring in that many specialized courses to TESC may be a headache waiting to happen and it will cost more since you have to pay the enrollment fee at TESC.

You might want to check out other schools in the twin cities and see if one has a program that looks better to you. Since you're at Century I'd assume you don't want to travel to the south metro, but Normandale has a program for that (and is the largest community college in the MNSCU system):
http://www.normandale.edu/pdf/factsheet/...nt-AAS.pdf

Otherwise you can check out other schools like MCTC or Hennepin Tech and see what they can offer. I don't think one looks better than the other on a resume but I would pass along that TESC is best for students looking to bring in credits or complete a majority (or the whole degree) through ACE approved testing (CLEP, DSST, etc.).
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

+1 to use them towards Bachelors. I myself have that exact AAS and originally I had never planned to get a Bachelors because when I was looking 10 years ago they were all Computer Science which isn't what I wanted so I was going for more certs. It is kind of cool that they tie in all of those certs / certificates which IMHO are valuable for job hunting and rounding yourself out ,but you could use the same towards a Bachelors. I know FHSU has a telecommunications and networking if your really want to keep that part. (Information Networking & Telecommunications (Computer Networking) - Fort Hays State University) WGU has a similiar program ,but I don't recall the prices Online University Degree | Western Governors University Online
SL Freshman - Intro to Psych,Intro to Bus,Bus Comm,Macro & Micro Economics, Biology w/lab,Crim Just,Acct1&2, Intro to Soc.
SL BOGO - English Comp II,Western Civ. I,
Fema - 12 classes
Aleks - Intermed. Algebra, College Algebra, Business Statistics, Pre-Calculus
CC B&M 45 Credit Hours
Penn Foster - BUS 110 BUS 425 BUS 430 FIN 301

A.A.S Computer Studies Conferred March ,2012 - TESC (34 B&M,12 Fema,12 Aleks/ACE,3 SL )
BSBA CIS - TESC (waiting for confirmation 9-2012)
CompTIA A+, Net+, Linux+, Security+
Microsoft MOS, MCITP,MCSA 2008
