I learned last week that Penn Foster charges $299 for individual courses for non-degree seeking students - are there any other colleges which offer individual courses for under $500 or so per course?
Inexpensive Single Course Option Colleges like Penn Foster?

CSU Pueblo, vest customer service I've ever seen at a college $479 or so per course.
University of Idaho, same rough price, also has plenty of UL courses. Google each school with "independent studies" for the full scoop.

What courses are you looking for? Are there some specifics to a course besides it being under $500? There are many providers including community colleges. The first place to look at would be the CC. If it's not available, then the following list: ALEKS, Ed4Credit, Prospero, Saylor, Shmoop, Straighterline, Study.com, Penn Foster, TOR Honorable mentions are APUS/BYU/Fort Hayes, the list goes on, the main thing is "finding what is required and what meets those" You should decide which courses are needed for the degree and then find corresponding courses that aren't available from another provider.

Self-Paced/Independent Study courses:
U of Arkansas Self-Paced is $480/course CSU-Pueblo Independent Study is $495/course U of Idaho Independent Study is $510/course BYU Independent Study is $534/course LSU Distance Learning is $728/course But I agree with BJCheung, Community College is the way to go. Depends on the state/college, CA has the cheapest at $46/cr, for in-state students. Some CA CC's will let you take courses for the same rates out-of-state, but there is normally a limit on the number of courses/credits (like 1-2 courses per semester). Still a great deal. Another couple of colleges with good pricing: NMJC - about $277/course Rio Salado College (AZ) - can't remember pricing, but it's a 4-yr college The other places listed by BJCheung are not RA schools, but course providers that have ACE-recommended credits. Those won't be accepted everywhere, so you need to see if you're going to end up at a school that accepts those credits before paying for them.

Home - Oakton Community College
comes in at around $400 a course (for 3credits) they charge 123.25 per credit as long as your a distance learner. And this is Regionally Accredited credits and not ACE. My main reason for not using Penn Foster for my Intermediate Accounting II course. I will eventually have all my ACC credits regionally accredited rather then ACE. Only using ACE credits for speed right now as I want to be eligible for a Promotion ASAP.

Wow I'd love $46/cr but the cheapest I can find around me is $155 but its not as easy to enroll in just a class at that school, also didn't have as good as a payment plan which I need right now.
