Importance of GPA on a Bachelors Degree?
#11
Points that may have been overlooked in this thread:

1) What employer, in the history of history, has ever cared about GPA? Have you heard this one yet? "What do you call someone who ranked last in his/her med school class? Doctor!" :p Or, on the case of accountants, no one cares what your grades were once you are a CPA, and even then, nobody cares what your score on the test was as long as you passed.

2) Everyone seems to be forgetting that colleges are colleges. Maybe I have to repeat that: colleges are colleges. When you send them your transcripts, they know what CLEP is and they know it isn't graded. They also know, by looking at EACH INDIVIDUAL course on EACH INDIVIDUAL transcript what EACH INDIVIDUAL grade was. They won't see someone who has precisely one graded course and consider that person to be a straight A student. Nor will they see transcripts full of A's and think that all the hard work you put into it was "non-applicable" just because TESC didn't use its calculator. Colleges are colleges, my friends, and in case you are wondering- YES, they have seen transcripts before.

You are closing in on the completion of your degree. You should be getting ready to CELEBRATE, not to worry yourself with trivialities.

Like I said up thread, a lot of openings with the federal government ask about GPA. I've also seen internships at private companies ask for GPAs. Teach for America puts a lot of importance on GPA. You can't become licensed as a teacher, at least in Texas, if you don't have a certain GPA. Otherwise, GPA is not that important in the private sector.

Oh my God! I'm an empress!

Oh, and I found this job ad.

I've been out of the job search market for some time (military), but I have several friends who were asked what their GPA was. The AF cares if you are trying to commision. Also, I have been visiting job boards and i have come across ads demanding minimum of RA bachelors and one that specifically asked for ASCSB. If i come across some again, ill post.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Err, well I'm sure SOME employers in SOME situations care about GPA- I knew that- but then there I go exaggerating again. It won't be the last time I exaggerate since I always without fail never not exaggerate perpetually 100% of the time. My girlfriend, who is 15,000 times hotter than Adriana Lima agrees 900 million percent Smile

I found one job asking for AACSB accreditation pretty quickly, but most of the results look to be for academic positions.
https://www.theladders.com/job/jobboard?...pl=ind-105

It was easier for me to find several positions on the first page of results asking for GPA.

The AACSB ad also asks for a minimum 3.0 GPA.

seanmathews Wrote:Now, im glad you said that, is there any issue with CCU being a Nationally Accredited for-profit school? I heard, all the time, that for my bachelors i should stay away from NA schools and stick with RA. Is that the same case with a Masters? I spoke with someone from CCU about it, and they informed me NA is only an issue if im going into Psychology or Education (Which is neither the case). Im looking for a simple Masters to complete, just to complete, for personal accomplishment reasons and for my resume.

And also for anyone else reading this, their opinion on a NA Masters Program?

Also, I am under the pre-July 1st enrollment, and my Capstone was also tested out of (Business Policy) so if i TECEP my last course, i will have NO GPA. CCU did confirm that it will not be an issue. But of course, I wanna keep my options open and look into other schools that could offer me a Masters Program.

You can go from RA to NA but generally not from NA to RA. Furthermore, if you intend on doing ANYTHING EVER that requires additional credentials - state, federal, or professional, you should pursue RA.

Re: GPA? Grad schools will ask on your application. I've also filled out a few random online job applications that asked for dates of attendance and GPA for each of my schools/colleges.

P.S. I enrolled -and dropped in my first class- out of an NA master's degree. Why? Because a lightbulb went off. It's the same amount of work!! And as your sitting there writing hundreds of APA or MLA pages, and on your six-zillionth citation, you ask yourself if your willing to do the work in a degree that might not count. It has nothing to do with snobbery- it's a fact. There are accreditations in place that allow universal transfer and standardization of credits. Colleges who opt out of that process for any reason are on the outside. If you don't like that, then change the system, but none the less, it is the way it is. In my opinion, your undergrad should ALWAYS be RA. Your masters is up to you.

I agree that most businesses really don't care about your GPA. Whenever I've interviewed someone for a position I've never asked about their GPA. However, if I saw a 4.0 GPA on someone's resume it would definitely make an impression. It is an indication that the person is a hard worker and probably pretty smart.

The GPA is even more important when a recent grad with little experience is trying to land their first job. This is especially true for jobs were employers specifically recruit recent college grads or have internship programs. In this case, they almost always have minimum GPA requirements.

Or they just tested out of all courses and took an easy 1-credit course on TESC. Wink

Back when I used to poke around on the med school forum, there is a specific trend you can find among med school admissions, and that the acceptance rate dips just slightly when someone's GPA goes from 3.XX to a 4.00 the assumption being that they attended a grade-inflated school/easy courses/etc.
