Hi all!
Fabulous website!
I'm KIND OF joking about the $50 bucks, but I REALLY WOULD pay for the best advice....
Here's my deal: Graduated with bachelors in 1978 (yeah, I'm old, but young of mind!)
I need a masters within 18 months - it's required for my new job. This will also get me a raise.
I want to do it online. I'd rather chew off my foot than sit in a classroom.
I am a person if intense and varied curiosities and have good "general" knowledge in lots of areas.
i want the quickest, easiest, cheapest degree I can get. I don't really care if it's from Mrs. McGillicuttie's School of Toenail Clippery or Harvard Business. Prefer not to have to take entrance exam... weak in math skills.
I'm trying to figure out the alphabet soup of testing out options.
I've looked a bit at WGU, Excelsior, and know I need to look at Charter and Edison....
ANY ADVICE?
THANK you so much for your thoughts.
Jackie

I really believe, given your criteria...that this is the BEST option for you.
Let me refer you and I get a $20 gift certificate, then you can just send me $30
The Big 3 lose a lot of their luster when you jump to the Masters level...they really aren't economically smart for a Masters IMO
WGU will also be the most cost effective by far...especially if you do it in 18 months or less. It will save you a few thousand minimum.

MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010
I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

rebel100, thank you for your advice! May I ask the meaning of the notations (classes?) with numbers next to them in your signature area? Any testing-out advice?

My scores on those DSST's...undergrad stuff.
If you have your Bachelors then your not going to be testing out per se at the Masters level. The MBA at WGU is writing intensive...no tests....lots of writing. That is largely true at most programs in the US.

Those are her test scores. You are going to love this. Most of us on here test out as opposed to take county or local college classes in a brick and mortar school. In other words, most of us don't really like sitting in classrooms either. Many people on here are thumbs at math too. On the other hand there are some seriously talented people in math too that can still help shed advice. Be sure to find out about testing out in math classes too, at minimum try using the Kahn Academy. There are programs through ALEK's or Staigherline to train your mind to pass any needed Maths. For example, most CLEPS consider a 50 a passing score (think of it like a "C" in a college course). Regardless of which method you use, if you decide to test out or transfer in any credits you'll need to do a few things first. You don't want to pay for and take any classes that you are not sure will count toward your degree.
You'll need to check with whatever college you want to attend to see if 1. If they accept CLEP/ALEK'S/DDST/Straigherline 2. What specific tests (codes) will be accepted to meet each area of the required MBA or other Masters program you are considering. 3. Is there a limit on CLEP or other testing (like DDST, ALEK'S, Straighterline, etc.) If you are really chomping at the bit to get it done, this site is well worth the 20.00 a month or whatever you paid because the people are here (especially the high ranking "Kings, Queens, Squires, Knights and Ladys") will have gone through the process and are very familiar with the big 3 and other higher level educational schools and what they generally accept (or don't accept). So you will get a lot of helpful advice just from being on here. Using the search tool really helps too. I just lost my job, but keep the money and just pay it forward to someone else that might be looking to train the brain.
Good Luck and good for you for getting back into learning!
Tara

Sorry both....I jumped the gun! Rebel is a Regent and knows her stuff! I don't know about WGU in specific. But the point is people are saying that testing out (using CLEP, Dantes, ALEK's) isn't something they accept, so stick with Rebel and that advice.
This site will give you loads of invaluable information!
Good luck!

Concordia University - Portland has a few online M.Ed. options that take 1 year to complete - 10 five-week classes. But it's on the expensive side (like $19000 for the degree) but you do get free books and they were running an iPad offer as well. It's not a fire and forget program either. They want you posting and answering discussions on a daily basis with a paper a week. (I'm finishing the first week of the program.. Only 49 more to go.. Eeesh.)
http://education.cu-portland.edu/
It is a Lutheran college and they do teach with a religious slant on things (if that makes any difference). (And the iPad in the offer is a Mini, not the big guy).
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.
Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

Sorry Rebel! I thought you were a girl! LOL! You do give great tips! Speaking of which, any tips for American Government? (you can message me). Thanks
