I have questions about TESC & Political Science Degree. Could someone please help me?

sanantone Wrote:The easiest degrees to test out of at TESC are liberal studies, humanities, social science, psychology, history, natural science/mathematics, and business administration with a general management concentration. You can get close to testing out of some of the other business degrees with concentrations in human resources, accounting, marketing, and computer information systems. You don't have to take any courses through TESC for the business degrees.

Thank you. You've given me a lot to think about. Are these Wiki pages specific to TESC's requirements? I'd be interested to know what I would need to complete the BSBA in GM with the credits I have. I'll try to figure that out now.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

You have a lot of humanities credits, but humanities is about as vague and even less marketable than social science. If you choose a degree other than liberal studies or humanities, most of your current credits will end up in general education and free electives. TESC has yet to clarify exactly which tests can be used for some of their new general education requirements, but you can kind of figure it out by looking at these links.
General Education Courses
DANTES
CLEP - College-Level Exam Program

You also have other options from Uexcel, ALEKS (when they're re-approved), Propero, Penn Foster (only ACE approved courses), Sophia Learning, Coursera (even though the courses are rarely offered), DreamDegree, Saylor, and Javaonline (if you choose computer information systems). TEEX offers free courses in cyber security.

Straigherline has an equivalency chart for TESC.
EquivalencySearchResults

This might not interest you, but TESC's Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness degree is 100% online. This is one of the only two degrees at TESC where you can use FEMAs (which are free) toward the area of study aka major. The Terrorism requirement can be taken through Penn Foster. Intro to Homeland Security is offered by Propero. The Uexcel for Research Methods in Psychology will probably work for the Research Methods in Social Science requirement. The rest of the requirements can be taken through TESC. You would probably only have to take 4 courses with them.

That might work. Cultural Diversity (Uexcel) and Terrorism (Penn Foster) could possibly fit in there too. Western Civilization I and II and World Geography are needed for general education. Of course, there are CLEPs for Western Civilization. Human Cultural Geography might work for World Geography. The General Anthropology DSST might be able to replace it in the area of study.

Another question...so when my current community college calculated 18 credits for the Persian Farsi courses transferred from the language institute on my evaluation, they were converting the credits from a quarter system to a semester system or so they told me??? I have 45 credits under the quarter system from what I was told (even though the transcript says semester which I have never understood). Anyway, I always thought 45 quarter credits translated to 30 semester credits so....(http://www.ace.edu/student-experience/cu...sion-guide) I'm confused as to why I only got 18 credits out of the local community college when I transferred??? BTW, they wouldn't use those Persian Farsi credits towards my degree completion because that language is not in their course library which is why it looks like I have a ton of humanities credits (I had to make up the humanities I lost for them not accepting the Persian Farsi).

Anyway, my transcript is attached for the Farsi credits. Do you think I can I get more than 18 semester credits out of this from TESC (keeping in mind community college only gave me 18)? What I posted previously wasn't directly from my transcript...it was what the community college gave me credit for. Maybe I have more UL credits to apply towards the International Studies degree in here some where.

Any input?

Wow! 45 hours hours of Persian Farsi, 15 of which are upper level? That is just AWESOME! What about a Learner Designed Area of Study in Persian Farsi? All you would have left to complete would be the DSST in ethics, the Capstone, and 8 FEMA (which you could replace with CLEPs if you wanted).

You just totally made my head spin. Smile I'm going to have to process what you just said. Is LDAS unique to TESC and is that what it would say on my degree. Bachelors in Learner Designed Area of Study???

I was just hoping some of that credit would count towards an International Studies degree. You guys are way over my head. hilarious

One issue I'm seeing is that TESC says:

Students must fulfill the BA or BS degree requirements, which include all general education and core requirements and LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone course. 30 credits in the area of study are designed by the student, which should include a minimum of 18 credits at the 300/400 level and with a limit of 6 credits at the 100 level.

I only have 15 credits in the 300/400 level.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Yes, your transcript would officially say "Learner Designed Area of Study," but it would be obvious to all who see your transcript that you have 30 hours in one specific area of study- no hodgepodge of classes. I suggested an LDAS instead of Foreign Language because they only seem to have French/ Spanish/ German/ Italian as possible majors, and also because you don't have the History of PF Civilization and Masterpieces of PF Literature courses. Perhaps call it LDAS in Persian- Farsi Studies?

Also, you have 15 upper level hours in Persian Farsi, plus the 3 UL hours in Liberal Arts Capstone, to get 18 UL hours in the major. That's standard for any BA.
