New to the Forum....
#1
Hi,

Although this is my first posting to the forum, I am no stranger to IC. I have taken and passed 8 exams over the past 2 years, all with the help of IC. I just took (and passed) by Principles of Accounting CLEP yesterday. Before that, I had not used IC since last fall.

I am a big fan of IC and it has helped me test out of a lot of classes that I otherwise would have taken as part of my traditional coursework. With the exception of Principles of Accounting, I used IC exclusively to study for all 8 of the exams I have taken. I decided to take Accounting I through a traditional class and then take the CLEP so I would not have to take Accounting II. For me, this worked well because some of the accounting concepts were not easy for me to grasp with IC alone.

I have been following this forum for the last month or two and I have found a lot of great information here, especially regarding tips for specific exams.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to participate here!

My track is a little different than many of the other posters here. I am working on a BS in IT but I am using CLEP/DANTES exams to fulfill as many of the general requirments classes as I can. IC has helped me to save thousands of dollars and countless months of valuable time. I only have 7 classes left but I only have an option to test out of 2 of them. If all goes well, I should have my degree by next May. Thanks for the encouraging words!

Principles of Statistics & Principles of Finance

I have read everyones postings for these exams and they were both encouraging and scary. I am going to buy a TI30XA calculator this afternoon and see if my local library has An Idiot's Guide to Statistics available (per the advice posted on this site). Then I guess I will dive into Statistics and see if I get overwhelmed. I have to take a traditional Quantative Analysis course later this year and these 2 courses are prerequisites. I am a little concerned that studying and testing out of these (instead of taking traditional courses) will leave me with less foundational knowledge going into the Quant class.

Perhaps if you were just cramming the information needed to pass the test this might be a well-founded concern. But, since you're reading an instructional book, you may go into the Quant. course with the necessary knowledge.

By the way, I too will begin reading the Idiot's Statistics book for the DSST exam. From the reviews I've read on the book (Amazon.com) and posts here, it should be helpful.

Russ...how soon are you planning to take these two exams? I have some study notes I could e-mail you if you want to send me a PM with your e-mail address.

Also...I just bought the Idiot's Statistics book, but I haven't yet taken the Statistics exam myself. However, once I'm done with it I'd be glad to pass it on to you.
