Hey everyone,
First-time poster, but I have been reading for about 1 month now. So far thanks to this forum I have been able to obtain my BOG AAS from Pierpont in the next few days. PARTTYYY!
I had 21 credits from my local community college from 2004-2005 and the other 39 credits I received from Sophia.
Currently, I have 70 credits from Sophia Listed Below:
Project Management
Comm at Work
Principles of Finance
Environmental Science
Human Biology
Intro to Chemistry
Visual Comm
Micro Econ
Macro Econ
Art History 1
Art History 2
Intro to Web Development
Developing Effective Teams
Intro to Ethics
Foundations to Stats
Intro to Stats
Intro to IT
Accounting
Intro to College Math
College Algebra
Essentials to Managing Conflict
US History 1
US History 2
Business Law
College Readiness
Courses from my local college:
English Comp I
Beginning Algebra
Music Appreciation
American History 1877
Intro to Computers
University 101
Intro To Business
So far Excelsior is taking 83 of the listed credits above. All I would need is a Written English, Cornerstone, Capstone, Info Lit, and 27 upper-level courses, 18 of them being in Social Science / Arts, the rest in anything. Most of the upper-level courses I was going to just grab through Study.com and transfer in, leaving me with the 7-10 credits I would grab through them. With Excelsior I know that Capstone will kick me in the backside because I hate papers and that paper is a Doozy from what I hear.
Does anyone have experience with the courses above from Sophia transferring into UMPI? I hear that their Evals take a LONGGGG time. I just sent it over this morning and now I am curious.
I see basically the difference is the type of learning, competency-based vs your traditional schooling. I do like that about UMPI. I also was told there is no Capstone, so once I hit my credits I am done.
The degree I would be getting from UMPI Is the BLS with a Minor in Management. I know one difference is I need a foreign language. For some reason, I thought they were on Sophia but apparently not. I do see from the forums I can do instantcert for Spanish, so I will do that. I took it in high school for 3 years so I am sure I can get through the exam. If I am able to transfer in the same 80+ credits I have and just have to do my upper-level with them, I am okay with that, but if only like 40 or so credits will transfer in, I guess Excelsior it is lol.
Sorry for being all over the place. I had coffee this morning and I am not supposed to have it. Triggers my ADHD.
Thanks for any help!

Once you're accepted then your transcripts will be evaluated. It usually takes 2-3 weeks after your accepted for the evaluation. You'll be able to see it in your account online and a hard copy printed on bright orange paper is mailed to you. Then you get a degree audit from your academic advisor. If you read through the UMPI posts you can see how Sophia courses are applied to the GEC. You don't mention which UMPI degree you applied for. That's key info on what courses can be applied where. Some UMPI degrees DO have a capstone. No matter what you have to complete a minimum of 30 credits at UMPI.

You're also going to need a science with a lab for UMPI. One of the easiest is Biology 101L from Study.com, but they also have Chemistry 111L. Or Arizona State University has a few science courses, but those cost more than SDC does.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Thanks for the info. I did list the degree as well it is below the classes I have taken at Sophia. BLS with Management Minor. I will try to do more searching in the forums.

Yeah, I did see that, I think that sucks my biology won't transfer by itself. Sigh, it's all good though. Retaking it with Study shouldn't be an issue.

Hey @learningthehardway, I think both Excelsior and UMPI are great options for you. If you have more time, UMPI would be my first choice. If you're working and have more commitments, Excelsior only requires 7 credits. Oh, btw, can you complete the remainder of the template located here? The more details the better so we can see which one may fit you more. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

I am going down the same path as you! I have an AS and applied at both Excelsior and UMPI. UMPI accepted a few more credits of mine than Excelsior. It did take about 2 weeks to hear back from UMPI and Jessica with my final transfer audit. I have officially decided to go with UMPI for my BLS minor in management. I am not starting until 8/29 in the Fall 1 session as I want to knock out more Sophia credits and have extensive travel this Summer. If you really like the Sophia platform as I do, they are launching a new course by the end of this month for Spanish 1! When I start on 8/29 I will have 12-13 classes at Umpi to be completed. Good luck!

Nice! That is super awesome! So far I have 70 credits with Sophia, 73 in a few days after I take Principles of Management. I hope it is a Upperlevel course. I do need Spanish I, so I will check with Sophia because I just canceled my membership since I didn't need it but I will need Spanish and don't mind paying another $79 bucks for it. lol

Have you already tried InstantCert Spanish? https://www.instantcert.com/credit_courses/Spanish-I It's $20 a month. How much is the test itself? If it totals over $79, I'll stick with sophia if it's accepted. If not then I'll do instant.

The test itself is either $15 or $20, IIRC. Maybe $25? The whole thing is under $50 for a single course.
