I am Done!
#1
Yesterday I finished all the requirements for the TESC Operations Management degree. Whew, I didn't think I was going to make it.

I took DSST Principles of Finance and MIS and passed them with a 442 on each.

Can I Just say that it feels good to finally be done. I never thought I was going to finish.

TESC messed up my plans to get two degree with their killing of the 200 series courses as being upper level though. But oh well.

I am starting a thread on what I found out about a great way to save like 60% off of the fees at Excelsior, so please check it out. I was soo suprised and will be going for a MIS degree there next, until I find a job at least.

I received soo much information from this board and I am really trying to give back so I just wanted to say thank you. The Ops management degree was a difficult one to find classes for but it turns out the courses were not as difficult as I expected.

Thanks

Thank you for asking,

I am 99.9% sure all my transcripts with get to TESC in time, so as soon as I get the little letter stating I have met the requirements I will start adding it to my resume. I have sacrificed a lot finishing this degree instead of just taking any job that came along but I know there is a huge difference in the kind of job I could get with and without my degree.

Until I get some work I am going to take all my credits over to excelsior and and either go for the MIS degree or the IT degree. I am not sure if I want to commit time to taking all the calculus and physics needed for the IT degree though, but I do have someone who has a Phd. in physics as a tutor to help me. For the MIS degree I will only need the Excesior Bus. Policy course and one class to fulfil the requirements and I think I have found a way to knock out about 60% off the enrollment and graduation fees at excelsior, so I am taking today to verify this and then I will be posting a thread on that.

I did a job search on Monster.com in California for all types of jobs by certification type and I have found that in this market there are 10 times more jobs out there for project managers than anything else so I will most likely go after a PMP certification. A lot of theses jobs listed for experience managers are showing salaries from $70 - 110,000. Which surprised me in this market but there are an abundance of positions listed so that must be a realistic salary range. Which is a good salary in any market, but still half of what I was making before the economic crash.

I searched for certs in both the computer field (which I had a knack for) and the transportation, logistics, and supply chain fields for APICS CPIM, ISM CPSM, AST&L, and any other credential that would help with a good salary. PMP and broadcom (computing) stood out.

So it is definitely off to PMP school for me. And I think I can get training for it for free. I did good for 15 years without a degree, but not in this market, a degree is minimum.

I don't plan on ending my contribution to this board though as my wife, brother and two nephews are also working on finishing their degrees. So any info I get I will be posting.

Good luck in your endeavors,

Frank
