I Need Some Direction -Excelsior

I have a year to kill while waiting to get into an Associates Degree nursing program. I have tested out of all the exams that I am permitted with my AA. After I graduate I plan on going to Excelsior and getting my BS and degree. Are there suggestions on what I can do for the next year while I wait? Could I study and take Excelsior exams while I am waiting? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I hate to waste a whole year just sitting on my thumbs; I'm not getting any younger!

I'm not sure I completely understand your post, but the short answer is--there's nothing to wait for. You can actually get your nursing degree through Excelsior I believe (it appears you're getting it elsewhere and I don't know beans about nursing so I'll stop here...). In terms of earning a Bachelors at Excelsior--you should just figure out what degree you want and start taking tests--starting with the requirements--and you could easily finish your Bachelors in a year--particularly if you're not doing anything else.

I couldn't agree with Barcotta more, definitely start testing out of any class you can for your BS degree. I understand you are somewhat limited as it will probably be a nursing degree, but there has to be some electives you can attack. I would get with Excelsior and have them walk you through the program, let them know your intentions and they will steer you in the right direction. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. You cannot get Nursing Associates Degrees through Excelsior. You have to take the hands-on classes (the ones I have to wait a year for) like dissections, patient rotations, etc. But I can't get into the classes because the waiting list is over a year long. I have completed everything that I can for my AA (much faster than I expected thanks to instancert and you all!). I want to see if I can work on some of the classes for my BS while I am in the waiting period. I’m sure that there must be something I can do; I just have no idea what.

I'll see what Excelsior tells me, and I'll keep you posted.

Excelsior offers both an Associate and Bachelor's degree in nursing. I received my Associate degree 16 years ago, and am now working on my BSN. Look over the degree plans listed on their website.

Great advice Minnie, exactly what I saw on their site as well. I would definitely talk to an advisor there and explain your situation, I'm sure there are classes you can work on in the interim. Lee

Sorry, You are right that you can actually get your Associates in nursing through Excelsior, but you have to either be an RN, LPN or already have 50% of your practical nursing classes (the hands-on ones that I have to wait for) before you can matriculate.
