Humanities or Social Sciences & History?
#1
I know I am turning into a CLEP junkie, but I'm ok with that!

OK, I am trying to take another 6 credit exam to speed up my pursuit of electives. I am wondering which of these two exams is friendly for a quick study: Humanities or Social Sciences & History? Ideally I will study for 10-15 hours for either exam.

I've already taken Psychology, Sociology (nearly 10 years ago) and I just took Western Civ II and U.S. History II. I have never taken an art history class, or economics. I am leaning towards the Social Sciences exam but I've been told by my local testing center that the Humanities exam has a higher pass rate. So I am not sure what do!!??!?!?!

Are you well read? Do you care about the arts? Have you been to the opera, museum or do you read music? Humanities is doable but it helps if you have a background in some of the areas.

Passed:

American Gov, US History 1, US History 2, Computing, Info Systems, Humanities, Sociology, Art, Western Civ I, Western Civ II, Social Sciences and History, Civil War, Business, Vietnam, A&I Lit, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, American Lit, English Lit, Astronomy, Supervision, 1 FEMA, Total -79

How many credits are awarded for History and Social Sciences? I don't see it on the list.

Thanks much.

SS&H is 6 credit test. Take SS&H! you already have covered most of the material and should pass with flying colors.

Social Sciences & History is the test for me! I took the practice test in the CLEP guide book, and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I think that maybe 5-6 hours of studying could earn me six credits. I am still upset over the DSST World Religions test... it was harder than I expected and I have to wait another 3 weeks to get my score!

I need a pass from the SS & History to bring my moral back up.

SS&H for you. Humanitites was for me. Both are sort of like "Jeopardy" question exams. I have a better familiarity with Humanities so I took it cold. Had to do some practice for SS&H. Sounds like you're the opposite. If you took recent history exams, definitely go for the SS&H. There will be significant overlap. I love the 6 credit exams. Have to try to pass Natural Sciences this Saturday and I'm shaking in my shoes. Don't know doodly about science but I HATE math (that's why I'm good at Humanities, LOL) and the 6 credits will satisfy my science AND math requirements so it's a big win if i can pass it!

Good luck to both of us and everyone else!!

sounds like we're both wrestling with the same question. I honestly don't know which way I'm going to go yet. I think when I get home from work tonight I'll take the practice exams from the blue book. Maybe that will help push me one direction or another.

When are you hoping to sit for your exam?

I am going to take SS & History on Feb 4th Smile
I had a hard time deciding which exam to take... feedback from the boards helped steer me towards the SS exam.

Let me know which one you decide on.
