How to sign up or begin taking the courses in aleks
#41
Log in to the Master Account

It says My Master Account
below that
Student Account
Courses then to the right is Reports
click on Progress Report and under the blue/green/yellow bars you will see
"Request a new knowledge check"
then you'll get a screen that tells you that the next time the student logs in they will have to take a new knowledge check

We did this but didn't jump up much. What helped us was the trick I read about here of changing the course to force a new Initial Assessment. In the Master account you go down to edit the student account. Change the class to something different, then log in to the student account and log back out again. Then log in to the Master and change the student account back to the math class you are trying to pass. And then log back in to the student account. This will force a new initial assessment. She made a big jump in her percentage just because she knew how they wanted answers plugged in a bit better and also instead of saying "I don't know" she would pause and work harder on the problem.

HTH!

Yes, starting the course over will give you a wide range of questions with the possibility of finishing with one exam. Requesting a knowledge check will give you a narrow range of questions the program tailors to you. A new knowledge check means creeping ahead in increments. I was usually ticked off when I got a knowledge check every 5 hours because they waste time better used to learn new stuff. As strange as it may sound, college level courses actually try to teach you something.

Ok, I found the Request Knowledge Check and after completing the assignment, it gives me 19% only for Requested Assignment. I guess this is what I need 70% or more for right? And how do I make this up to 70% or more?

So if I do as suggested and make up to 70% or more of the initial assessment or make closer to 70% and then work through the pie to make up 70% or more , have I passed and ended the course?

You have to get a 70% on an assessment (not a quiz). So if you only have 19%, then you probably can't get away with any of the tricks people use to force an assessment. You have to actually work through the course, and learn a lot, to get up past 70%, and then get 70% on another assessment.

Yes, I took An Assessment which wasn't timed and had about 25 questions(I took 2 in fact-18% was the first). I took my time for both and I would assume I got almost all. I'm surprise how come it gave me just 18% and 19% despite that and how can I make 70% in an Assignment?

Driel, you're in a bind. It's not you, it's the AI system. I'm going to PM you in a second with recommendations.
Basically, the only thing going for ALEKS is that it's no proctored, otherwise, it's just a practice workbook.

ALEKS is a beast, it requires the answers to be "exactly" as the system wants it, even though there are other options of writing the same answer.
Essentially, it's failing you due to it's artificial intelligence is set to a specific answer. You think you almost had all of it, but it won't compute.
Their courses are "harder" than any other math course I've taken elsewhere, so for Statistics, I got mad and took it at Straighterline instead.

Get yourself acquainted with more math at the level you're taking, and try to work those questions "slowly" like take an hour for 1.
Don't go through the entire set in an hour or two, it's not a timed event. Finish off a few sections of the pie and force the assessment.

So is it better I do as you say switching classes and start with an initial assessment, because it's getting rather frustrating?

This is a course - not an exam. Find the pie, click on a section and start doing problems. You will probably finish the course in 30 to 50 hours. Learn the material and every 5 hours you will get a Knowledge Check. You get he easiest questions if you start at the top of the pie and go clockwise.

Unless you do the work, you are going to fail. No debate about that. If you write 100 exams without doing the work you will fail.
