How to check for current Penn Foster ACE accreditation?
#1
Hey everyone,

I'm looking at Penn Foster's Intermediate Accounting 1 and 2 on the ACE registry and it's telling me this:

Intermediate Accounting I (ACC201)
Credit Type: Course
ACE Course Number: 0109
Organization: Penn Foster College
Location: Self-study.
Length: Correspondence program
Dates Offered: 3/1/1999 - 9/30/2012
Objective: To expand on general accounting principles...blah blah blah...

If I'm reading this correctly, the course is no longer accredited? (It died on 9/30?) Int. Accounting 2 says
it's valid 1999-Present. It's weird that Intermediate accounting 1 would be dropped and 2 would still be valid,
so I'm wondering what's up because the date listed is relatively recent.

Is there any way to check with ACE to see if this is just a temporary thing or if it's dropped for good? I would call
PF but after reading some of the posts here I wouldn't trust their advisors.

Any suggestions?

You might be able to reach ACE and ask them. I had to call them once and they were nice. I'm sure PF would want to renew, maybe they can tell you if it is being worked on still.
Note that Monday is the observed holiday and ACE is closed.

I agree with you, I wouldn't trust an adviser from "PF" telling you the course will be going through another ACE evaluation in the near future, if the course is no longer approved by ACE, just try to take it elsewhere. PF advisers only care on signing you up for the course. They will tell you whatever, in order for you to sign up. Like for instance..

"Oh, yes we lost ACE approval for that course, but the ACE organization will be reviewing that course next month and for sure without a doubt it will be ACE approved again."

Wrong! You'll be surprised on how many PF courses don't make it through the process.

What ACE is showing under ACE's registry is for sure, Accounting 1 is no longer approved by ACE. Penn Foster loses many courses over and over again from ACE, sometimes they get new ones, sometimes they don't. Doesn't mean Penn Foster won't ever get it ACE approved again, it just means they lost approval for that course right now. Penn Foster has to update the course criteria to meet ACE standard, so in the future, it could possibly be approved again.

Wow, I'd be very interested to hear what you find out from ACE. I've been looking into these classes and I didn't even notice the dates for Int. Accounting I. I really hope that they are in the process of getting it reapproved. This shows I need to pay better attention when I'm checking ACE. Thanks for posting this and let us know what you find out!

Wow, things change fast. I guess you have to check every month because it was obviously approved earlier this year. Penn Foster has actually been letting a lot of its ACE approvals go. If you go through all of the courses listed on the ACE National Guide, you'll notice that Penn Foster let a lot of approvals expire last year and never got the courses reapproved. From a Penn Foster thread I read, it sounded like PF was attempting to get courses reapproved, but they never were. So it makes me wonder if PF is unwilling to continue to pay for ACE approval or if they're having more serious issues.

Ok, just got off the phone with the nice lady from ACE.

The Penn Foster courses that dropped off on 9/30/12 just haven't been updated
in the database yet. They renewed October 1st and are still valid.

Anyone out there reading this months from now, don't worry, the course is good to go.

I spoke with an admissions advisor over at Penn Foster and she told me that Business Mathematics had NOT been picked back up 10/1/12. So it's quite possible that NOT ALL of the courses that end 9/30/12 have been renewed. The best thing is to confirm each and every course that doesn't say "Current" through ACE directly. And do it by email so you have a written record of it in case there is confusion later on.

Well that sucks. I hope no one took Business Mathematics and other non-renewed courses during the period ACE failed to update Penn Foster's page. Penn Foster seems to be continuing a trend of offering less ACE-evaluated courses.
