Anyone have any idea how long it usually takes a site to become a DSST test proctor? I talked with the local college here that proctors the CLEP exams, and they've started the process on becoming a DSST proctor site. The problem is that it's taking a long time. It's been about a month already and still no word from Prometric. At this point I'm going to have to re-study for at least two DSST exams.
Sorry about that subject line I meant to put how LONG to become a DSST test center.

Sorry to hear about the wait time. Are there any Military bases close to you that you can go to and take the exam? They should be administering every type of exam.

Would they allow non-military civilians access to their testing center? There is a base here, but I'm pretty sure it's a reserve base. Do the reserves also offer these tests? The closest regular military base otherwise would be about as far as I'd have to go anyway so it wouldn't make much difference.

Yes, military bases allow civilians to take exams there. All the Education centers on military bases are sponsored by a local college or university. If it is a reserve base, then they might not have a test center, you would have to ask. Just make sure you have proper I.D. when going through the gate, you might get shot! (just kidding)

I test at a military base and I'm not military or DOD. I can get on base, but proper papers are necessary - I need driver's license, car registration and insurance card. My car can be inspected if they require it.
Last time I went (just days after bin Laden) a machine-gunner was standing by. He looked verrrrrry serious!
I don't have a problem with any of it. That's the price of admission so-to-speak.

The testing center that I use said that it took them about a year to get their DSST testing up and running. They said DSST was really slow and that it took forever to get passwords and other information to start testing. I don't know if that is always the case. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

As for Prometric, an Educational institution it shouldn't take so long.
Things may have changed but when I looked into it a couple years ago, you (as an individual company)could be a licensed testing center for all exams but ones for educational type institutions and state/ federal licensing exams.
Meaning that you could give tests for all types of business and computer certifications such as microsoft, oracle and the like, but they wouldn't allow you to do exams for say nursing, real estate, or CLEP type exams. For those they required you to be an accredited educational institution. So you may want to check on that.
But the process wasn't that long at the time, all you had to do was fill out an agreement, have a dedicated server, download the software, do some online training/testing, have a dedicated room, and a locker where test takers could lock their stuff. Once you were all set up you would need an inspection so they could verify you testing center.
I went as far as getting all the software downloaded for testing, set up a small room in my office and tested everything. Then they put it on hold because they were implementing a new licensing structure that month and I didn't make the cutoff, and I didn't wan't to pay the higher fee.

That was kind of the hint I got from people at the school here. They said they've been dealing with Prometric for over a year now trying to get testing set up for some other type of testing that Prometric offers.
I decided to just go ahead and schedule a couple of exams elsewhere. Oddly, they only do paper tests, but they were the closest place so I went with them rather than drive twice as far for a computerized test.
