How to Completely Test Out of TESC Degrees
#21
nerako Wrote:Sanantone,

Regarding the BA in Psychology, on the website under this specific program it states 'Courses transferred to Thomas Edison State College are equated to the following levels: 100, 200, 300 or 400. A minimum of 18 credits equating to 300 or 400 are required.' , which I know youre aware of. I always interpreted this to mean that it applied to the Psych Electives. However, youre interpretation is that it applies to the entire Area of Study section. Have you clarified that with the school itself? It really could be more clear.

Also, with the new LA Capstone requirement, it really is not possible to completely test out of the BA in Psych degree, is that right? Or do you know of a course that could taken in place of that capstone??

Thanks!

It applies to the whole area of study. Psychology was my major before I switched to Social Science. The rules are pretty much the same for all BA degrees. This thread was started before the capstone requirement, so no, you cannot completely test out of any of the BA degrees. They all require that the capstone be taken at TESC.

They really aren't offering much in science that isn't already offered somewhere else. Everything is not offered in every semester either. For psychology, humanities, and social science majors; they might find these more useful.

sanantone Wrote:I noticed some mistakes in your degree plan. You have DSST Intro to World Religions listed for humanities and general education electives. You can only use it once. I don't think Here's to Your Health is counted as a general education elective. Someone else will probably have better information on that. Unless you really want to take the TESC courses, there are test/Straighterline options for the courses you've planned. I know it's confusing, but TESC accepts Straighterline Accounting II as Managerial Accounting. Straighterline Managerial Accounting is transcribed as Cost Accounting (UL), so it won't fulfill your Managerial Accounting requirement. You can use free FEMAs for free electives.

Thank you for catching this and your help. Can you please help me with fixing my plan?

Where can I find other general education and humanities courses? Need to get rid of the duplicate course, as well as, get rid of the here is to your health.

I would like to take the test as opposed to classes. Is there a location that I can find the straighterline courses I can use instead of TESC?

This is all making my head spin :/

Thanks in advance

Here's the list from TESC: Thomas Edison State College: General Education Electives

If you want to take additional exams to fill these requirements, you can find the list here for CLEP: CLEP - College-Level Exam Program

Here for DSST: DANTES

And here for TECEP: About TECEPÂ Exams

For Straighterline courses, check this out: EquivalencySearchResults

The new SL courses are not on this yet, but they should be fully transferrable to TESC. Check with an advisor there to be sure they will and what they will be credited as.

Thanks, and you're right about Ohio U, although there are still a couple of biology options- what's reallay lacking are most of the previous math options- I see nothing above Calculus I!

Yeah, there aren't any other test options for Biology and the Future of Man and Human Biology. I don't know if TESC would consider it overlap to take Human Physiology and A&P I and II. Normally, people either take Anatomy and Physiology as separate courses or they take them together as A&P I and II.

I think I saw Bioethics as well- maybe TESC would also accept that for Bio credit (should always be verified with them)?
#28
There is a 3-credit ECE for Bioethics that's $305. The Ohio University exam would be $324-333 depending on residency if it were a 3-credit course, but it isn't. It's a 4-credit course that would cost $432-444. You would have to decide if that extra credit is worth it. If I remember correctly, Bioethics is listed as an UL biology course in the PLA database.

Duh! All I had to do was look at TESC's list of natural science courses to see if MIS and Network Technology will fit. Management Information Systems is listed as a natural science, but Network Technology is not.
