How quickly did it take you to earn your bachelors degree once you found out about CLEPS/DSST/etc? I need roughly 60 credits until I complete my bachelors degree. I'm getting ready to deploy for 6 months. What is my best option to keep earning credits while deployed? Straighterline? Aleks?

Is it realistically possible for me to finish my bachelors, about 60 credits, in 1 - 1.5 years? I want to finish it ASAP so I can apply to become an Officer.

How quickly can you complete a course through Straighterline?

SL is self paced, finish as quick as you like.

We had recent poster who bAnged out 80 some odd credits in 2-3 months. Another did a huge amount of SL in 28 days. FEMA can be completed at an alarming rate....it depends on you and on what you need.

If you will tell us what you have credit wise, and what degree your seeking we can give you a better idea....but really it depends on bow motivated and capable you are.

I agree with Rebel, You can finish your credits faster - I know other people on this forum who have. I myself need 90 credits by the end of summer and I used to think I was crazy but not so much anymore, it really depends on what kind of degree you are looking for and how determined you are. I would also say cost may be of issue - I'm currently enrolled in school and using overpayment from my loans toward testing. You can't take out loans just to pay for CLEP/DSST so without this, I would be looking at your timeframe just due to my budget. I have also not used Straighterline but other here have...you can search for forum posts about it.

I myself am trying to figure out the upper level classes I need and how to aquire them in the time frame I need. I am planning on going to TESC and from what I understand they take awhile to evaluate credit which is why I'm looking to finish by the end of summer - end of the year if I really have to. My community classes end in May and I am using ALEKS for my math and Statistics requirements and then trying to test out of everything else. My trouble is figuring out how to complete my capstone and whatever else TESC requires for my degree.

I can't get the link to work for the WIKI (i'm at work now) however, the trailblazers on this forum have posted some of their degree plans and more information about classes, tests and earning credit. If I can, I will link it for it if someone doesn't beat me to it. Also use the search button - these forums have taught me so much and I'm only been posting since January.

I'm planning to get my degree in Accounting or Computer Information Systems. I'm extremely motivated, my goal is to get my bachelors in either major I posted, not only so I can have my bachelors but also so I can go from being Enlisted to being an Officer. I currently serve in the United States Air Force, so all my schooling is paid for, my CLEPS/DSST's are also paid for. I work every other day, and the days I do work, after 5PM is my time, which gives me a TON of studying time. I'm currently a fire fighter and love it. I'm looking forward to the future and what is best for me, so I'd like to commission and become a 2nd Lieutenant.


I'm currently off work for two weeks. I want to take Macro/Micro through Straighterline. Is this reasonable? I have two full weeks, I can work all day on these courses. Is it realistic I can finish both?

You can probably do micro and macro in 1 month, search the forum it's been done before. Get the books, even an older edition.

List your credits and we can help you. Figure out the gen eds from CC and credit by exam. Figure out the upper level....the rest is elective, maybe FEMA or something....

If your really motivated you might be able to finish before you deploy. TESC and EC only require 1 course, COSC only requires 2 done in residence, the rest can be transferred in

It took me about 9 months to finish my BA in History once I discovered this forum and learned about TESC. I probably could have finished it faster but at the time I the project for work I was on was nearly all-consuming. Plus, I chose to take 1 course through TESC.

OTS and SOAR is extremely competitive and with the current sequestration talks and drawdown, it will be even harder. We just had an Airman who already had his bachelors coming in get turned down for OTS. If your GPA is low, you will need to take actual classes to bring it up. Also, use a lot of that extra time you have volunteering and doing extra to make those bullets shine. Also, remember you are applying to become a full time leader, so leadership bullets will be paramount. Volunteer bullets that say "cleaned park" or "first four member" are pretty weak when it comes for officer packages. You need to have bullets like "first fours/5-6 president", "led volunteer effort" "organized meal for veterans", etc.

Also, degrees in CIS and accounting at TESC is going to take longer because there aren't many exams available for those courses.
