That's the question.
I haven't used SDC or SL yet. But I'm coming to the end of my CLEPs with Modern States. And we don't have $200 for SDC at the moment. So the new SL coupon ("LEAP99A" for $99 off) is a great way to jump in and hopefully complete at least two courses for $118.
But can I do three in a month?
How fast have you completed SL courses?
I'm looking at courses that aren't closely related (since SDC course overlap counts toward related courses):
Intro to Religion
American Government (think the CLEP would be too many trivia facts to remember, for me)
Business Law
Personal Finance
Business Communication
Working towards:
Exams/Courses Taken (99 Credits)
- CLEP (36) - English Comp, Natural Science, College Math, Principles of Mgmt, Intro Marketing, Intro Sociology, Analyzing & Interpreting Lit, Intro to Educational Psychology, Human Growth & Dev
- DSST (12) - Principles of Supervision, Intro to Business, Human Resources Mgmt, Organizational Behavior
- Sophia Learning (51) - Developing Effective Teams, Student Success, Essentials of Managing Conflict, Conflict Resolution, Intro to Ethics, Visual Communication, Intro to Psychology, Public Speaking, Intro to Info Tech, Accounting, Statistics, Algebra, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Communication at Work, Principles of Finance, Business Law, US History 1&2

You probably can do 3 in a month.
It might be useful to check if the final exam is open book.
Be sure to take advantage of all available coupons.

How fast or slow it will take someone to finish a SL class totally depends on that person. I don't think there's any one answer for that. In my case, I work part-time so I work on my classes in the afternoons/evenings. I also do not study well, so taking ONE class through SL took a month or two, depending on how difficult it is. But, depending on your situation, you could very easily take three in a month. Like I said, it depends on the person. Start with the two classes you are most familiar with. For example, if you are a very religious person and have a lot of knowledge about the American government, then take those two first. I also echo what lacussucceed says, and that is to check and see if the final is open book. That was a huge help! Here's a link: https://www.straighterline.com/how-it-wo...g-details/

I've decided to go with Intro to Religion (familiar topic), Business Law (unrelated to other courses needed), and Business Ethics (cheaper than a DSST and somewhat familiar, from an earlier Sophia course).
All three SL finals are open book!
I guess that ends up almost being the same cost as SDC for a month, but it's like a free class. So I'll eat Ramen : )

If I sign up for the free month, can I buy the courses anytime? Let's say I purchase two courses to begin, and only buy the third later if I finish the first two soon enough and have time left in the month. Is that possible?

I joined this forum and am on my way to a bsba at charter oak and you guys provide so much good advice and I thought I'd give back.
If you dont need to take business law it's a very long tough class. Unless you have a legal background it's not a quick course

You can purchase as many courses as you want, if your membership expires, your course is untouched until you renew. So, it's like on a pause until you pay for a new membership. Try to get more done with a second monitor, to review the e-textbook while you're working on assignments (for those courses that have assignments) or working on the quizzes. I use a laptop with a second monitor for all my courses, especially the ones with many pdf documents or web links to read through...

I personally wouldn't purchase more than 2 courses in a month - you can easily add another once you figure out that you'll have time left to complete it.

You can't just open a second tab to view the textbook?

Obviously you can. But, I think bjcheung77 is talking about opening up both the course and the eTextbook so that you can look at them at the same time. I have a large 27" screen so it would be easy to do, not really easy on a laptop or smaller screen.
