How long do teachers have to grade a final paper? (TESC)
#1
My "teacher" has in the past taken as much as 3-4 weeks to grade assignments (turned in every Sunday). I didn't worry much about it because I was acing my work, but still that is ridiculous. I turned in my final paper last Saturday the 19th and it is still not graded. I'm just wondering what is the "normal" time for final grades to be posted? Also, I noticed in the super-cool-ninja degree planning system at TESC it lists me with a 4.0 GPA -- but I don't have a grade yet? (This was my first class)

I figure I'll contact the teacher in a couple of days if there's still no grade, but I have five more classes I have to take so I'm wondering if this is just "normal" for TESC.

Thanks!

I can honestly say it has been hit or miss with my courses. Some will have the grades up right away and others it will take anywhere from two to three weeks. I had a Physics course last semester where everything past the midterm had not been graded at the end of the course. Come to find out that it was just an issue with the teacher and some personal matters. I believe honestly it's either a personal thing with the teachers, or they have to wait until all the students have turned in an a particular assignment before they can release the grade. Whether they do this to curve the assignment or not, I have no idea. Sorry this doesn't really help much, but at least you know now that you are not the only one.

Thanks, I'll contact the teacher maybe Tuesday and the school if I haven't heard anything by the end of this week.

BTW have you considered ALEKS for stats as well? I'm at 62pct about 2 weeks (roughly 25 hours spent) after signing up. It's not bad once you get over the initial terminology hurdles. Plus you don't have to worry about the pass/fail DSST test issue.

Dcan,

I was told the general rule was Mentors had until the 4th of the month following semester to post final grades to the school. My experience was some posted final/course grade right away others closer to the time they were posting the grade to the school. I think it depends on the mentors workload - remember some not only mentor at TESC but actually teach at other colleges. Some have multiple courses with a full class, while some may have only one class each semester with 1-5 students.

You can always email about a week later to request your grade but I have found it's best to just be patient. And more important to not look at TESC as a traditional college, there is a lot more flexibility or frankly we would have chosen a different school.

The listed 4.0 GPA is obviously just a software placeholder since you do not have an actual grade yet. The software does seem to be a bit hinky lately, if you need definitive answers call advising or the registrars office.

I've considered doing ALEKS Stats, but I'm not sure if I'll have enough time since I'm working through this Pre Calc right now and currently trying to complete two courses that are pretty intensive. I'm aiming to apply for the March graduation so everything has to be received by the college by Jan 1st. I'm thinking that DSST may be the quickest means to doing that, I've heard it's not a bad exam. If all else fails then I will of course try and complete ALEKS Stats. Thanks though, and good luck with resolving your grade issue with TESC. If I were you honestly, I'd probably just be patient with it. It's a pain sometimes but I try to find other things to keep me distracted in the meantime unless you are worried about the course.

Dang, I literally just hit "send" on an e-mail to her right before I checked in here. Oh well, worst case is she can tell me to wait, and I told her that is fine, I just wasn't aware of the policy for final grades. I'm more than willing to wait as long as I know what the rule is. If it's in the student guide somewhere then that is bad on me for not reading it thoroughly enough.

No problem with the email, most are pretty good with responses.

I was actually told about the posting timeframe by someone in the registrars office while waiting for final grade to post for graduation.
