How does the WGU IT degree work
#11
dfrecore Wrote:He does have an AS, but it does not cover some of the courses they require - no Nat or Physical Science, no English comp II, no Critical Thinking. But, if they go ahead and give him a block transfer, then that would be great. I guess the best thing to do is just send his transcripts and see what they give him before trying to plan anything out.

Yeah definitely send them in and see what happens. For my program, the transfer eval sheet just says having an associates will satisfy them, regardless if you have the courses. This obviously might be different for the new program, but it so far appears to be standard for the others within the IT college

You know what would be really nice at WGU with their breakdown of courses required for the degree? If they would list Gen Ed courses first (especially considering they can be block-transferred out of), then the Core/Major courses in a second list. It is so weird how they have them all mixed together.

Well, my husband decided to take a different option for now. When he goes for his annual review in a few months, they will actually look more favorably upon certifications than degrees (because they generally assume people have degrees, or else they aren't relevant, so they don't really care). Anyway, for whatever reason, after looking at the certs he would get in the Cybersecurity degree, he decided that the CCSP & CISSP would be the best things to get for now, so he ordered the books and started studying already! He will take the exams (work will pay for them) and then can bring them to the Cybersecurity degree if he decides at that point to get it.

He has also agreed that I should send in his transcripts for him, so I will do that. At that point, we can see what WGU will do with his prior AS degrees and go from there. I will update when we find out.

And, he is happy to know that the CCSP and CISSP will knock some credits out for him when if/when he does decide to enroll, so there's that bonus.

I guess we're going to take a little bit of a detour from the original plan...

Best of luck to him on the CISSP. That's a huge cert and it will be a great accomplishment.

He actually had it a few years ago but it expired. So hopefully he'll find it fairly painless to get it again. Man, that is one THICK book!!

Ok, new question: how long does WGU normally take to get your eval completed?

They told me it typically takes 3-5 business days after receiving all transcripts. It took 3.

Imagine my elation after coming from the TESU world!

Well, I sent the transcripts on 4/17, and starting getting notification that the school had received them on the 18th. We're at 9 business days and counting. I have the worst luck with this stuff, I swear.

And, I just sent an email to the Enrollment Counselor, and got an auto reply that she's out of the office until Thursday. I'm thinking this will be held up even longer!

They finally got the eval completed yesterday. I sent emails to his advisor, and then student advising on Monday 5/1, and they completed it Wed 5/3. And they had all of his transcripts between 4/18-4/21. I think we fell through the cracks or something.
