How do CLEPs compare in difficulty?
#1
I've been kind of wondering about this for awhile. How hard really are the CLEPs? I say this not in the way that they're too hard for me, but I just have nothing to compare them too. Are they harder then "regular" college exams?
I ask this because when I'm "flying" through my degree and my friends are going the "normal" way. This makes me look like I'm "special needs" or something because I have chosen a different rout.
I just wanted to know what other might think about this or if something similar has happened.

P.S. By the way, I have taken CLEPs before.

Well if you took a CLEP you know how hard they are lol. To me its not so much that there hard.. for the most part there basic questions. Its just 100 basic questions out of a possible 10000000000000 (exagerating) and you have to study a vast majority and hope they ask that question

Yeah but if the tests are easier then most college courses, then its kind of a cheap degree. I fully believe in the CLEPs, and I like to challenge myself by taking them as fast as I can [and passing them], but are people usually smarter this way?[I mean by taking CLEPs and DSSTs]

I've always seen myself as the regular guy and everyone else as the special needs people; I'm out there learning on my own, making my own lesson plans, doing what I need to do to pass my final exam (the CLEP or DSST), the SOLE SOURCE of my grade. I've been doing this less than 6 months and have accumulated roughly60-80 credits.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is taking the short bus route through college, completing only 15 credits every 4 months, learning the material in peicemeal increments, receiving a grade based on multiple assignments, and going to class 3 times a week to be led by the hand by a subject matter expert.

Cheap degree??? If this was the easy way then Ron Popiel and that weird guy with the question mark suit would be selling CLEP study guides through Amway on cable at 3:00AM. I was tapped for a focus group on the CLEP program and CLEPs are HARD for most people. I posted a summary on the board a few months ago, so if you want to read it just search. My jaw almost hit the floor when I heard these people talk about their harrowing experiences failing numerous CLEP exams. Trust me testing out if anything simply adds to the credibility of your degree; CLEP/DSST passing standards are uniform nationwide. A 50 is a 50 is a 50, however an A at Harvard vs. an A at Joe Blow the Rag Man junior college may not necessarily represent the same level of academic achievement.

IMO, anybody can sit in a class, memorize assignments and pass courses. Like the above posters said, it takes willpower, intelligence and fortitude to clep through a degree and by the way, ITS NOT CHEAP. 100 bucks a course plus books and the sleepless nights studying are far from cheap.

I am one of those horrow stories he speaks of. I have failed about 7 cleps/Dsst mix of both. Missed them all by 1 points.

I have taken 6 classes some online some in class. GPA 3.7. Doing stuff that way is just a matter of waiting 2 months to get the grade IMO. I am never challenged, and usually not to interested. But when you take the time to teach yourself a category.. it gets a little more interesting, and quite a bit harder

Poor guy!!! I hope you improve upon your record man, that just sucks to hear. I'd be increadibly frustrated if I were you and I give you kudos for sticking with it. Also, if you're not a SEAL, could you maybe be an engineer, because engineers rock.
