How can I obtain my degree sooner?
#1
I attend Columbia College of Missouri online full time. I am in my first year of college. I will have completed my first year after I finish one more semester.

I am working towards my B.S. in Business Administration.

Is it possible for me to complete my degree sooner than within the four year time frame?

I would like to complete my degree as soon as possible.

In what way can I do so, and still obtain an accredited degree?

Thank you for any information on this subject. The more in depth detail one can offer me on this, I really appreciate. I look forward to the insight that others have to offer on this subject.

1.Find out your schools policy on Cleps, Dantes, ECE's ,Ace Credit, etc.

2. Look for tests or ACE credits (eg: Aleks, ACE approved Penn Foster courses, NFA) that will help fill requirements in your program. Look into FEMA credits, free if attending TESC, or $60/credit hour through Frederick CC if attending Excelsior.
Check with your school to see if they will accept them on a transcript from Fredrick CC

3. Study for and take exams, and/or ACE reviewed courses.

4. Graduate sooner and in less debt.

FYI: if your school does not have a generous acceptance policy toward the above options, consider transferring to one of the big 3 degree completion schools, TESC, Excelsior, COSC

Each of the Big 3 has their own advantages and disadvantages. A search of this board should produce plenty of info for each school.

They do have a generous acceptance policy on those listed above. (you can have up to 60 credit hours of nontraditional class credit---ie. clep, dsst---online courses are considered "traditional")

If you did not apply/declare (yourself as a Columbia College student) as an Online student and only applied as a nonmajor to begin courses then even better news! (this means taking courses only with them.)

Earn your AA from another school (RA) and they will waive the gen. ed requirement. Then you get to move on with the classes you wish to take.

I am working on CEU credits with them now for my husband. The transcription department said the CEU's are approved a one for one credit.
So, that's great news! But, I won't believe this until it happens.

We are working toward the AA from another school, it will save us 15 gen. ed. hours.

If you have a specific ACE approved course and what it will transfer in as, I would make a call to verify first (as I would with any other college).

Hope that helps!

Feel free to PM me if you wish.

Most colleges that I know of accept up to 30 CLEP/Dantes credits. That would shave one year of college time off for you. You could shave off more if you transferred to one of the Big 3 peace123 mentioned above whenever you feel you've gotten as much as you can from Columbia C of Mis. However, you may desire to stay with Columbia's online program.

Oh, and make sure the tests you take count towards your degree. They should if they are general exams, but it would really stink if you earned some college credit only to find out your college didn't accept it or it didn't count towards your Business Admin degree!

Congrats!

I am working towards my B.S. in Business Administration.

Yes, very easy. You can enroll in your college's max course load and take CLEP exams too. I completed 120 credits in 18 months that way.

I would like to complete my degree as soon as possible.

In what way can I do so, and still obtain an accredited degree?

It would be any college you choose- if your college is accredited, then you are good to go. You don't have to transfer to speed up.

Thank you for any information on this subject. The more in depth detail one can offer me on this, I really appreciate. I look forward to the insight that others have to offer on this subject.
