Home school graduate seeking an accounting degree

We sent an excel spreadsheet of his high school transcript and it has not been a problem yet. He ended up getting his BA at TESU. We made that choice because we could not afford the tuition anymore and do not believe in debt if it can be avoided. I think he would have benefited from attending some brick and mortar classes but we are also very rural and it would have been difficult. You can see the schools he has attended in my signature. I would not suggest Hodges. CSU and HES have excellent online courses. You can inquire at WGU or any other to see if they accept homeschoolers.

It depends. I homeschooled my daughter and we needed a high school diploma so we went with Penn Foster. The nursing program she wanted to attended wanted at least a GED and some entrance exams so we had no choice. If it's something where you'll need a state license you MIGHT need a GED depending on the program, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

No one should require a GED if you have a high school diploma.  A homeschool high school diploma is just as good as a public or private school high school diploma.  If they're requiring a GED, they are just ignorant of facts.  I would never get a GED if I had a diploma, and neither should any homeschooler.

At the time, there was no "homeschool" diploma. We even asked about something like that. Homeschooling was looked down on a lot more than it is now (and even now it doesn't have the best reputation, to be honest). I was not aware that things have changed.

Ummm...SOME may look down on it, but so many homeschoolers did better at SAT/ACT exams than their public & private school peers that SAT & ACT stopped keeping track of the scores, and now don't report by type of school.  Many Ivy's have admissions policies specifically for homeschoolers and even recruit them.

What year did you graduate from high school?  And in what state?

In 2002, Arizona. Rio Salado is the only one that would let me in, but I'd have had to take their stupid expensive placement test.

I think the law has been that parents can issue a HS diploma for many years there (it was legalized in 1982, but wasn't illegal before that).  I think colleges maybe were behind the times, or maybe parents don't always know how to issue diplomas with transcripts.  But a public university cannot make you get a GED if you have a high school diploma.  And they can't make you get one from a "real school" like Penn Foster.
